Your age by dinner math

Got this from an e-mail… it’s a cool trick, but it’s basically just a simple math problem.

It takes less than a minute.
Work this out as you read.
Be sure you don’t read the bottom until you’ve worked it out.
This is not one of those waste of time things, it’s fun.

1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like to
go out to eat. (More than once but less than 10) or you can just pick any number between 1 and 9
2. Multiply this number by 2 (just to be bold). or to make the problem work 😉
3. Add 5.
4. Multiply it by 50.
5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1757. If you haven’t, add 1756.
6. Now subtract the four digit year that you were born.

You should have a three digit number.
The first digit of this was your original number (How many times you want to go out to restaurants in a week (or the random number you picked.)

The next two numbers are:
YOUR AGE (oh yes, it is!).

THIS IS THE ONLY YEAR (2007) IT WILL EVER WORK, SO SPREAD IT AROUND!

Ric Flair endorses Huckabee

From CNN:

COLUMBIA, South Carolina (CNN) – In the race for presidential endorsements, Mike Huckabee has the kitschy pop culture celebrity vote on lockdown.
First it was martial arts hero and “Walker, Texas Ranger” star Chuck Norris, who appears with Huckabee in his first TV ad.
Then hard-rocking hunting enthusiast Ted Nugent jumped on the Huckabee bandwagon, citing the Republican’s support for second amendment rights.
Now, Huckabee is getting ready to rumble: wrestler Ric Flair, a.k.a. The Nature Boy, is supporting the former Arkansas governor in his bid for the White House.
CNN has confirmed the former WWF and WWE star wrestler is on board with Huckabee, and will co-host a campaign tailgate with the candidate at the South Carolina vs. Clemson football game on Saturday afternoon in Columbia, South Carolina. More details are forthcoming.

Gotta say it… “Wooooooooooooo!”

Celebrities and politics

Re: the Mike Huckabee TV ad with Chuck Norris

From the Fred Thompson team:

With his new campaign ad featuring Chuck Norris, Mike Huckabee has confused celebrity endorsement with serious policy.
You heard it from Fred: Celebrities and serious policy don’t mix!

Just how does this blog thing work?

Well, I heard some interesting questions, comments and such about my blog this weekend. It’s always nice to get feedback whenever you can (of course anyone can always drop me an e-mail with questions or feedback).
But several people said they didn’t understand why/how they had to register to leave a comment on my blog.
I introduced new rules for leaving comments due to the large amount of spam I’m now getting as comments. Luckily my spam filters stop most of it but since Thursday of last week, I’ve had nearly 200 spam comments. Gripes.
Anyways, I thought I’d walk everyone through the registration process and show you how to comment on SSL.

What being rich tastes like

D Magazine blogger Sarah Eveans shares a humorous side of Starbucks in Highland Park:

This morning I stopped into Starbucks in Highland Park Village to get coffee. (I know, I know, but I really don’t go very often, and the aforementioned Trinitinis were making my head swell.) I ordered my drink, and the barista called the order back. But instead of saying, “One grande, nonfat, sugar-free vanilla latte,” he said: “One grande, nonfat Highland Park.” Apparently, this drink is so popular ’round these parts they have renamed it to make their lives easier. So, when my red cup was placed in front of me, I took the lid off and poured the steaming coffee right into the lap of the first Botoxed cougar in $700 workout clothes I saw. No, I didn’t. I drank it, and it was gooood.

Reminds me of Chris’ trip/interview to People Newspaper, D Magazine’s sister publication. He said when he walked into the office he felt like alarms were going off all around him saying, “POOR! POOR! POOR!

Matthew steals the show

We enjoyed an early Thanksgiving dinner with my family today at the retirement center my grandparents and Kara and Tim live. The center provided dinner for all the residents and their families.
It became apparent as soon as the forks and knives settled that Delaina’s son Matthew was going to steal the show. It’s crazy to think that he’s a year old. One of Laurie’s first contact with my family was right after Matthew was born and he was having a minor heart murmur. With her medical experience, Laurie was able to give some advice and comfort to everyone involved. I guess it’s just hard to believe that wasn’t much longer than a year ago. (read my dad’s blog entries at the time)
I’m so thankful for my wonderful amazing life and her amazing smile, comfort, peace and love she brings with her everywhere she goes. God has been good and my love for both Him and Laurie just continues to grow every day.

We’ll have more Thanksgiving fun this Thursday with Laurie’s family and then with again with my immediate family. I checked the scales last night and I’m down to 228. It may be the first time I’ve been below 230 in 5 or 6 years (if not more) – the real test will be whether I can keep dropping with all the Thanksgiving food that’s on the way.
