Why?

Questions of the day…

Why do you go to church where you do?
Or why don’t you go to church?

  1. OK, so this is longer than your post, but…

My wife and I, have finally summoned all the courage we could muster and have formally left not only our denomination but our church as well.
I has been a huge step to take…

While some might take the view that we have lost our way, or lost our faith, this is not the case. We have great confidence that God will restore all of creation under the authority of Christ. We continue to believe that the Church is God’s ongoing presence in the world. Led by the Spirit of God, we join the God of the oppressed in living out the transforming message of the resurrected Jesus.

We believe the day is coming when Jesus will return to judge the world, bringing an end to injustice and restoring all things to God’s original intent. God will reclaim this world and rule forever. The earth’s groaning will cease and God will dwell with us here in a restored creation. On that day we will beat swords into tools for cultivating the earth, the wolf will lie down with the lamb, there will be no more death, and God will wipe away all our tears. Our relationships with God, others, ourselves, and creation will be whole. All will flourish as God intends. This is what we long for. This is what we hope for. And we are giving our lives to living out that future reality now.

What we think we will do over the next few months is ‘go on retreat’ and spend time as a family exploring what it means to us to be followers of Jesus and what it means to be part of God’s ongoing presence in the world. We also believe that we are creating the space for God to ‘move into the neighbourhood’

    1. Thanks for sharing! I know it takes some courage and boldness to step out from the norm and look for God outside the typical boxes we’ve placed Him in.
I’ll be praying for you and your wife as you sojourn on towards Him.
