The calorie counter

Been trying to get a lot better at tracking my calories. I feel like I do pretty good during the week and stay below my recommended 1900ish calories. However, the weekends tend to do me in.

We often end up eating with friends or family and I find it hard (and someone intrusive) to sit and try and figure out everything that’s going into the food I’m eating. Even harder when we do potluck for our community group each Saturday. Suffice to say, I usually track all I can on the weekend and then tag an extra 2-3k calories on top of that.

It’s really amazing to see how many calories you ingest day to day. For example, my huge salad from Chili’s last night was 850 calories where as the roast beef sandwich I was given for lunch from Corner Bakery weighed in at 1000 calories. I did however check the Corner Bakery and saw that it reported the calories at 790. So of course I submitted the changes to Livestrong.com.

Either way – I would have to say I’m eating less as well as smarter now that I realize how quickly those calories add up (of course I guess the real judge is the scale and Laurie :-)).

cardio

So I usually feel decent about my cardio abilities — at least when it comes to walking or riding my bike. Last night I decided I’d try 5 to 10 minutes of jumping rope to get some exercise going.

Let me just say — I am out of shape — and I have no rhythm.

I was super winded when I finished and I was unable to jump rope more than 24 times in a row. There was a lot of restarting and getting to 10-15 before the rope hit my head or one of my feet. Geeze.

But I’ll keep pushing on. Maybe I’ll get up to 26 jumps in a row before all this is over!

Don’t look happy about it but I lost 3.6 lbs this week. Good for a week I spose, so far I’ve been working on watching what I’m eating — need to add some activity in there somewhere.

So, here are the stats.

This week — 3.6 lbs

Net weight loss since starting the challenge with Thomas on Oct. 10, 2008 — 2.8 lbs.

My Bucket List

Friday night Laurie and turned off the Olympic opening ceremonies (yes I know a cardinal sin) and watched the Bucket List. I loved it. She wasn’t as impressed.

The idea behind the movie is two men are dying of cancer and are only expected to have six months to live, so they make a list of all the things they want to do before they “kick the bucket.”

The movie reminded me of the “life goal list” Mark Batterson challenges folks to create in his first book, “In a Pit With a Lion On a Snowy Day.” Basically a list of 100 things that you want to do/accomplish before your life is over.

Been thinking through some of my goals (especially realizing that I only a little more than have 4 full months left to complete my goals for 2008). Looks like I’ve blown one of them already – the take a photo each day of me in 2008. I think I lost focus/motivation after folks said they were getting bored with my photo selection in mid-April. Hopefully I’ll pick it back up next year – but maybe just take a photo a day – rather than a photo of me each day.

So far I did finish rebuilding a new encounter website as well as rebuilding the CasadeBlundell.com website (with a lot of great help and insight from my life).

I think I’ll easily meet my reading goal for the year. I’ve completed 10, almost finished with #11 and just received #12 and have #13-15 currently being shipped from Amazon.com.

My last goals that I’m still worried about/shooting for are:

  • Finish losing weight. My goal weight is 205. I’ve got about 20 more lbs to go.
  • See 8 new community groups started at encounter.
  • Get 4 new people on the sound or media shout rotation at encounter.

So… all that said – what about my Bucket List? Well, I’m still thinking it though. I’ll give you one of them though… bungee jumping.

Now how about you? What’s on your Bucket List?

Biblically fit

Just how far and seriously are you going to take your faith?

My weight, eating habits are one area I keep falling down on. Over the last 3 years I’ve lost close to 30 lbs., but I still have a good 20 lbs to go and I’m still stuck in the same rut/spot.

But maybe this will help inspire me… from Tripp Fuller’s Doctor

“it’s hard to consume 2000 more calories than you need and large amounts of meat that took even more energy to produce when our sisters and brothers in Christ are starving around the world.”

I missed the gym on Saturday and yesterday due to other things on my schedule – better do everything I can to get back to the gym tonight – and better get me a new workout strap for my Zune so I have some motivation while I’m working out.

Maybe I should put the photo that really kicked start my weight loss a few years back on my Zune as well. Let me tell you – I was a fatty McFatty.

I don’t have that photo online yet – but here’s a photo just a few months before the other one was taken:
