Expectant father quiz

Laurie’s been sharing a great Q&A over on her blog through most of the pregnancy… thought I should share my answers as well (although the questions don’t all fit an expectant dad as well as they do an expectant mom).

How Far Along: Less than 80 hours to go

Total Weight Gained/Loss: 10-15 pounds… although I’ve started watching what I’m eating again and I’ve lost 7 or 8 pounds in the last few weeks… so a net gain of 4-7 as of today.

Sleep: No real changes for me.

Best Moment of the Week: seeing Laurie get excited as we countdown the days and hours till the boys arrive.

Movement: Laurie says they’re still moving fairly regularly but not as much as before. It’s amazing to feel them move and squirm from time to time — especially when you can feel something recognizable like a foot, hand or a knee.

Food Craving: Chinese food and Mexican food.

Labor Signs: We haven’t worked out our signals yet… but I’m keeping my phone near me at all times just in case. Luckily unless something changes drastically in the next 70 hours or so we won’t be making any rush trips in the middle of the night to the hospital.

Belly Button: Mine hasn’t changed in the last 31 years or so that I can tell.

Stretch Marks: Those appeared in college when I took on my “freshman 50.”

Wedding rings: It’s scuffed up and scratched up but still fits like it did the day we bought it.

What I miss: Walks at night with Laurie and her being able to go where she wants with me.

What I’m looking forward to: Getting to meet my baby boys in less than 4 days!

Other NEW news this week: My co-workers threw me a surprise baby shower this past week. It was very sweet to have everyone there and their presence (and gifts of diapers and wipes) were so greatly appreciated!

Daddy quiz

I found a quiz for new dads over at babycentre… apparently I know quite a bit about raising a baby… I doubt that… but we’ll find out for sure in 6 more weeks.

I got 12 of the 15 or so questions correct (although I’m not sure I like all their answers, and what in the world is a “nappy”?! Silly UK site. ;-)) Continue reading Daddy quiz

Did John Mayer write the Message or was it the other way around?

Prodigal John has a fun post over on his blog, Stuff Christians Like about Christians smuggling John Mayer into our camp. I think the original title of the post compared Mayer to Christian artist Chris Tomlin.

I think in some ways, John Mayer has snuck inside the Christian circle like a ninja. Or maybe we smuggled him in, I’m not sure. The point is, he’s here, and Christians have embraced him in a surprising way.

I’m personally a fan of John Mayer’s music. Haven’t seen him live (other than on TV) but I hear his concerts are great as well.

Along with his post, Prodigal John offers up this quiz for all. The list below is 15 quotes either from The Message Bible or John Mayer. See if you can tell which is which.

1. Then they get in all their shopping sprees. At day’s end I’m ready for sound sleep,

2. Belief is a beautiful armor, but makes for the heaviest sword

3. Now we see everything that’s going wrong, with the world and those who lead it

4. I dare to believe that the luckless will get lucky someday.

5. She takes you in with your crying eyes, then all at once you have to say goodbye

6. You should have seen that sunrise with your own eyes, it brought me back to life

7. I’m tired of all this—so tired. My bed has been floating … on the flood of my tears.

8. Take all your wasted honor, every little past frustration, take all of your so called problems, better put them in quotations.

9. She says the bible is all that she reads and prefers that I not use profanity

10. And I will walk outside on my own into the light, the kind of clarity that only comes to me on Sunday’s shine, Sunday’s shine

11. I’ve thrown myself headlong into your arms— I’m celebrating your rescue.

12. He comes up empty. A string of zeros.

13. Someday I’ll fly, someday I’ll soar

14. Nightly he strolls in our garden, delighting in the flowers, until dawn breathes its light and night slips away

15. You tell me where to go and though I might leave to find it, I’ll never let your head hit the bed without my hand behind it

See the answers.

Well I’d like to think I have a generous orthodoxy. I’ve told Laurie recently that I couldn’t tell you where I fall in the “theological spectrum.” But apparently, according to this quiz, I fall primarily in the emergent/postmodern mindset. But because I’d like to think I have a generous orthodoxy – know that where ever you fall – is cool with me ;-). Oh and hat-tip to Chad for the quiz link.

What’s your theological worldview?
created with QuizFarm.com
You scored as Emergent/Postmodern

You are Emergent/Postmodern in your theology. You feel alienated from older forms of church, you don’t think they connect to modern culture very well. No one knows the whole truth about God, and we have much to learn from each other, and so learning takes place in dialogue. Evangelism should take place in relationships rather than through crusades and altar-calls. People are interested in spirituality and want to ask questions, so the church should help them to do this.

My model of church

Lee shared this quiz on his blog (didn’t know he had one until he commented on mine earlier today).
Here are my results for “my model church.” The description seems pretty dead on.

What is your model of the church? [Dulles]
created with QuizFarm.com
You scored as Servant Model

Your model of the church is Servant. The mission of the church is to serve others, to challenge unjust structures, and to live the preferential option for the poor. This model could be complemented by other models that focus more on the unique person of Jesus Christ.
