Obama’s prayers

Barack Obama April 6, 2010
April 6, 2010 "Before a prayer breakfast, the President met privately with clergy members in the Blue Room at the White House. At the conclusion of the meeting, a final prayer was delivered as they held each other's shoulders." (Official White House Photo by Pete Souza)

President Obama shared an insight into his prayers at the National Prayer Breakfast this week.

He mentioned three re-occuring themes in his prayers:

  • ability to help those who are struggling
  • humility
  • and that he would walk closer with God and make that walk my first and most important task

Very insightful…

What priorities would your administration have?

Obama and Bono discuss development policy in the Oval Office, April 30, 2010. | Official White House photo.

I found myself watching Dave, with Kevin Kline and Sigourney Weaver last night.

As a quick recap (or spoiler)…

  • The President has a stroke and falls into a coma.
  • Kline plays a presidential impersonator and is brought in to “fill in” for the president.
  • Eventually, the first lady (Weaver) figures out there’s a cover-up involving Kline (she doesn’t know her husband, The President is still in a coma) and both Kline and Weaver decide to jettison the White House in hopes for an easier life.

But before the leave town they both reflect what they love about the office — helping those in need.

Weaver then asks Kline, “What would you do if you were still there?”

What would you tell Obama?

Sojourners is asking folks, “What would you tell president-elect Obama if you had a chance meeting with him?”

…with rumors flying about the details of the Obamas’ impending move to the capital, Obama sightings may become none too rare for locals, forcing all D.C. residents to wonder, if given a fleeting audience with the president, what would I say?

We’ve had the experts and notables in the Sojourners network weigh in with their memos to Obama (which I am excited for you all to read in full in the upcoming issue of Sojourners magazine), but truthfully, I am more curious to see what average Americans wish to tell the man on whom so much is riding these days, because to me it seems that our collective hopes, fears, dreams, and requests need to be heard in this time of change, so we never forget the felt needs of Americans today.

They only ask that you send it as a picture – like so ::

Or like so ::

So, what would you tell the president elect? Post your photo on your blog and share the link in the comments below or via twitter or somewhere we can all see it. And of course, while you’re at it – send a copy of it to interact@sojo.net as well.

I’ll try and post mine later tonight.

Sarah Palin Rap on SNL

Didn’t see this before. Guess we got bored or sleepy that week and missed it.

On a related note – who are you hoping to recruit for the 2012 or 2016 election? With two year campaigns becoming the norm, now might be a good time to start thinking that way.

Hamas does or doesn’t support Obama

Apparently folks are up in arms because a member of Hamas said he hoped to see Obama win the presidency.

“We like Mr. Obama, and we hope that he will win the elections,” said Yousef. “I hope Mr. Obama and the Democrats will change the political discourse. … I do believe [Obama] is like John Kennedy, a great man with a great principal. And he has a vision to change America to make it in a position to lead the world community, but not with humiliation and arrogance,” Yousef said, speaking from Gaza.

It appears that Obama may be trying to distance himself from the idea that he might be more lenient towards Hamas. Makes sense politically, but I would love to see a president who governs and leads out of love and grace to all, rather than humiliation, arrogance and ignorance.

Don’t see that guy running for president in 2008 yet.
