Helping our friends beat foreclosure – update

Stockton, California

It’s been two and a half weeks since I put out a plea to all my blog readers, Twitter friends and Facebook peeps to help our friends beat foreclosure.

The plea was simple — can we get 450 people to donate $10 by Nov 1 to help them keep their house.

With a little help for our friends

I was looking over the totals that have come in to help our friends beat foreclosure this week.

It’s encouraging to see.

Folks from 2 different countries, 5 different states, people that have never met my friends, are all pitching in to help in a time of need.

To help illustrate this, I put together a quick map highlighting the cities represented thus far.

Help the Joneses

tallskinnykiwi singing

A friend of our podcast, Andrew Jones, has put out a call for help and I hope you’ll take a couple minutes to read and respond.

Just a little bit of background in case you haven’t listened to his chat on our podcast yet…

The Jones family is traveling the world in their truck, exploring the world that God loves and seeking to bring real transformation and change. They have just visited 12 countries, hosting leadership training events, encouraging social enterprises, and supporting missional entrepreneurs in a sustainable and effective way.

Its been an incredible time but the financial crunch has caused a number of funders to drop out and now the funds are depleted, just as they head south and east towards the next 25 countries.

The Joneses need to raise $30,000 by the end of the year but the urgent need is $5000 for visas, diesel, ferry and plane tickets that are needed immediately. Can you help them by supporting them financially or by spreading the word?

Give the gift of clean, fresh water for 30 people

Kevin Hendricks is a man on a(nother) mission… after spending time in Ethiopia this March to pick up his newly adopted son Milo, he’s witnessed the water crises there first hand and he’s hoping to make a difference with his 30th birthday.

Kevin writes ::

In late March 2009 we traveled to Ethiopia to bring home our son Milo. While there, we witnessed the reality of unclean water:

  • Time and time again we saw the people of Ethiopia carrying these 5 gallon jerry cans, often walking hours to muddy water holes for their daily supply of tainted water.
  • Milo came home with giardia, a water-borne intestinal parasite common among people with no access to clean water.
  • I fell sick for a day, stricken down by water unintentionally consumed either in the shower or from rinsed dishes. Thankfully it was a mild case (yay for meds!).

The Blogger Bake Off

This looks cool.

bakeoff

from the website ::

Quite simply; bake bread, give dough. You can sign up for the campaign, make a donation, upload your bread recipes and document your culinary adventures in the media centre to spread the word. Bloggers can go even further by downloading our widget and tagging five other bloggers to do the same.

I haven’t extensively looked the site over yet, but I like the idea thus far. May have to bust out a bread recipe or two tomorrow.

How to get involved ::

  • Join our campaign.
  • Submit your bread baking recipe.
  • Make a donation to Breadline Africa.
  • Vote for your favourite recipe.
  • Bake a loaf of bread and blog about it.
  • Bake many loaves of bread and host a bake sale.

Anyone else checked the site out yet?
