Thoughts on love and forgiveness

St Peters Brewery

Originally posted at StPetersBrewery.info

I’ve witnessed a couple great examples of people truly living out love and forgiveness recently in my life — especially through some people very close to me. Their stories inspire me to believe that while St. Peter’s Brewery may be a fictional story — the ideas contained within it can truly be lived out day by day. Here’s a couple excerpts from Chapter 8 of St. Peter’s Brewery that deal with these ideas:

Brian McLaren – A New Kind of Christianity

Brian McLaren has a new book coming out shortly and Spencer Burke’s already talking to him about it…

In the book, A New Kind of Christianity, Brian lays out 10 questions people seem to be wrestling with universally.

The questions include:

  • The Narrative Question: What Is the Overarching Storyline of the Bible?
  • The Authority Question: How Should the Bible Be Understood?
  • The God Question: Is God Violent?
  • The Jesus Question: Who is Jesus and Why is He Important?
  • The Gospel Question: What Is the Gospel?
  • The Church Question: What Do We Do About the Church?
  • The Sex Question: Can We Find a Way to Address Sexuality Without Fighting About It?
  • The Future Question: Can We Find a Better Way of View the Future?
  • The Pluralism Question: How Should Followers of Jesus Relate to People of Other Religions?
  • The What Do We Do Now Question: How Can We Translate Our Quest into Action?

Thoughts on St. Peter’s Brewery

Just received this via email from a good friend…

JB….I got past all the holiday company and finished your book last night…a few thoughts:

1. I was very impressed with the depth of character development all the way though…especially Jimmy, GT, Kim, and Eddie…..but Pete was my favorite BARNABAS of the bunch.

2. I also thought you did a great job of developing the threads of multiple themes…you had to think way ahead to do that and weave it all together!

3. Of course the obvious message about discovering faith-life through authentic relationships was crystal clear and effectively communicated too.

4. Most importantly, someone with a gift for writing like this needs to do it for a lifetime….I know you stir the water in lots of arenas, but my opinion is that this area is a calling for you. The pen is still mightier than the sword! This type writing gives you room to develop ideas/personalities/core values that goes much further than the typical blog. I know you seek to follow HIM and will do that well….but, I believe HE has given you an unusual talent, a “sword”, for advancement of the Kingdom.

Thanks so much for the kind words!

If you’ve read the book (or are reading the book) I’d love to get your thoughts as well – good or bad. What do ya think? What’s challenging you? What questions are coming to the forefront?

The book is spreading

St. Peter’s Brewery is now available in print through multiple vendors online. You may also be able to purchase the book in your favorite brick and mortar book seller. Simply request St. Peter’s Brewery, (ISBN-13: 9781442174788 ISBN: 1442174781).

I’ve contacted our local Barnes and Noble and they said the book was not available to order in store yet, but something in their computer showed it would be available Dec 28th. We’ll cross our fingers and see.

it’s vs its

it's vs its

A little grammar lesson for everyone today.

While writing and editing my book, I kept bumping into a conflict in trying to decide between “its” and “it’s.”

I kept forgetting which was the correct usage of each word. (Here’s to hoping I caught and corrected all the instances within the book! :-))
