Once or twice a week I get to spend the whole day with my boys – just me and my boys.
At times these days have been full on stress, as I’ve tried to get other things done while watching them – I’ve learned however to just put my task list aside, focus on them a things will go a lot smoother for everyone’s concerned.
We’ve had a lot of people ask what the boys would like for Christmas.
We’re so thankful for all that we’ve been given already and we honestly can’t think of anything they need other than diapers (Pampers – size newborn or 1) and formula (still trying to figure that out).
But as new parents we might be missing some great innovations in parenting.
So I’m curious — if you had $100 to spend on your baby (or babies) what would you buy? Any “must haves?”
Use Amazon’s Baby Store as a pricing guide and let me know what you come up with in the comments below. You don’t have to spend all $100 – but be sure you keep your shopping list under $100.
As an added bonus, I’ll pick one random comment at the end of the week and send that person a copy of my novel, St. Peter’s Brewery.
Laurie’s been sharing a great Q&A over on her blog through most of the pregnancy… thought I should share my answers as well (although the questions don’t all fit an expectant dad as well as they do an expectant mom).
How Far Along: Less than 80 hours to go
Total Weight Gained/Loss: 10-15 pounds… although I’ve started watching what I’m eating again and I’ve lost 7 or 8 pounds in the last few weeks… so a net gain of 4-7 as of today.
Sleep: No real changes for me.
Best Moment of the Week: seeing Laurie get excited as we countdown the days and hours till the boys arrive.
Movement: Laurie says they’re still moving fairly regularly but not as much as before. It’s amazing to feel them move and squirm from time to time — especially when you can feel something recognizable like a foot, hand or a knee.
Food Craving: Chinese food and Mexican food.
Labor Signs: We haven’t worked out our signals yet… but I’m keeping my phone near me at all times just in case. Luckily unless something changes drastically in the next 70 hours or so we won’t be making any rush trips in the middle of the night to the hospital.
Belly Button: Mine hasn’t changed in the last 31 years or so that I can tell.
Stretch Marks: Those appeared in college when I took on my “freshman 50.”
Wedding rings: It’s scuffed up and scratched up but still fits like it did the day we bought it.
What I miss: Walks at night with Laurie and her being able to go where she wants with me.
What I’m looking forward to: Getting to meet my baby boys in less than 4 days!
Other NEW news this week: My co-workers threw me a surprise baby shower this past week. It was very sweet to have everyone there and their presence (and gifts of diapers and wipes) were so greatly appreciated!
This morning I was checking in on Twitter and realized I’ve posted 19,998 Tweets since I joined Twitter in October 2007.
I posed the question… does this make me an oversharer?
To which my brother-in-law posed the response… go on a tweet holiday and use the 20,000 to announce the birth! Unless you’ve already passed it by now!
Sounds like a reasonable enough challenge… 97 hours or so without Twitter (well at least without posting to my main Twitter account @jdblundell :-))
So we’ll see if I can do it.
Granted my biggest worry is the various online accounts that automatically post to Twitter for me (probably one of the reasons I’ve reached 19,999 tweets). I think I’ve disabled all the connections, but we’ll see.
Thankfully, Twitter’s started using OAauth, so hopefully I’ve disconnected all these services (check https://twitter.com/settings/connections) to see what sites/applications have rights to your Twitter account).
So there you have it… no Twitter for 97 hours… but I’m betting that may lead to more blog posts, video updates and posts to Facebook.
And for those of you who don’t have Twitter… you can still get the big announcement via a SMS text message.
Simply send a text with the following message to 40404:
follow jdblundell
You’ll likely get a response asking for a username. Simply pick a random username, send it as a reply to the same account and you’ll get the big announcement as a text message on your phone.
