Christmas ads

my two favorite candidates are running (or planning to run) Christmas ads in Iowa and other states.

Huckabee’s ad is stronger in showing his faith, which helps bring out the Christian conservatives Huckabee is hunting for, while Obama’s tends to give a more open feeling and doesn’t preclude or include any particular faith.

What do you think? Which appeals to you more?

Scoble working for John Edwards

Former Microsoft evangelist Robert Scoble is about to leave PodTech.
He’s planning to announce his next position on Jan 15th.

Brian Bailey suggests that Scoble may be looking at going to work for the John Edwards campaign – depending on the results of the Iowa caucus. Edwards has been locked in 3rd place most of the election season. But he could still pull out a surprise in Iowa, knocking off Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.

Interesting. Very interesting.

Of course I still think Ron Paul and Mike Huckabee have the best online presences of the campaign – although Ron Paul’s camp isn’t doing most of theirs – it’s his supporters. The same for Mike Huckabee, except his campaign actually shares, posts and links to user created content, where as Paul almost seems to ignore the user created content.

Huckabee doesn’t seem like much of a dark horse anymore. Depending on the poll he’s clearly leading in Iowa and tied or leading the GOP race nationally. Paul on the other hand could still come out from behind and surprise everyone.

Should be interesting to see what happens on both the GOP and Dem side.

Red light jobs available

“To raise awareness about the trafficking of women into sex slavery, Stop the Traffik set up a stand at a prominent careers fair for ‘Top Jobs Abroad’ a fictional recruitment company offering “the very best opportunities”. After being greeted by a friendly representative, visitors were ushered through a door at the stand and straight into a specially designed Red Light District window– in full view of passers by.”

DNC denies Drudge item came from them

Drudge plastered, “DEMS HOLD FIRE ON HUCKABEE; SEE ‘EASY KILL’ IN GENERAL ELECTION” on the top of his front page today.

Not that it matters in my opinion, whether they do or don’t, but according to the Mike Huckabee campaign, DNC Communications Director Karen Finney said:

“We always appreciate having our hard work noticed, and we know Mitt Romney likes to feel special, but the truth is we’ve been tracking Huckabee for over a year. The Romney campaign should take heart in the fact that the Drudge Report is buying their spin hook, line and sinker because nothing in that story came from us.”

The Huckabee campaign added in an e-mail today: Romney’s camp keeps a close watch on who the Dems are hitting and have boasted in the past about how they are the most popular target.

Personally, I don’t think it really matters who the Dems are attacking at this point – most of the GOP have done a fine job attacking each other on their own.

from the GOP Univision debate

Univision Television (Hispanic focused) hosted a GOP debate last night in which the questions and answers were translated into English. Univision hosted a similar debate for the Democrats several months back and Sen. John McCain was the only Republican who signed up to take place in the GOP debate originally. The debate was rescheduled and all but Tancredo showed up this time. Here are some of the highlights. You can read the entire transcript online. Continue reading from the GOP Univision debate

thoughts on Romney

lots of thoughts on the web today about Romney’s speech at Texas A&M last night.

Thought these were the most interesting

Mitt Romney took to the microphone the other day to make his stand for religous freedom, unsubtley likening himself to JFK and calling upon the names of Sam Adams, and of course Jesus.

But his speech sounded not a cry for the religious freedom envisioned by the Founders. It was far from an endorsment of America’s cherished pluralism.

It was instead a shameless bid for the endorsement of the Christian Right. Using Jesus’ name, he pitched himself to the Christian Right, assuring them that he was Christian too.

In short, he wrapped himself in the old flag of the worst of civil religion which calls for the Christianizing of the body politic rather than the freedom of religious belief and expression in the public square.
