Baby Shower #1

Diaper Cake

We had a great baby shower yesterday for Laurie and the boys.

I use the word “we” loosely since I just showed up and helped unwrap the gifts ;-).

It was a great time and we brought home a car load of gifts. I’m not totally sure where we’ll put them all.

But a HUGE thanks to Jen, Kara, Evie, Aunt Linda and Aunt Gwen for putting it all together.

It was amazing to see how loved we really are!

Thanks to everyone who came and for all the amazing gifts.

We have another shower coming in a few weeks and even better yet — the boys appearance is getting closer and closer! Laurie just passed the 27 week mark last Thursday… now if we can find her some relief for her bed-rest-boredom.

Five questions with Kara Ellcey

Everyone has a story. What’s yours?

Kara Ellcey

What does an average day look like for you?

Wake up to a smashin tune on my phone, who uses real alarm clocks anymore? Hit snooze twice, then get up for real. Head to work sometime between 7:30-8; Spend my day with our elderly brothers and sisters, trying to figure out what exactly I can do to make the day better for them, whether it be eating or communicating better. Then head home for the evening. Squeeze in a workout, waste a lot of time busying myself with projects, then get ready to do it all again in the morning.

What’s been the best day of your life?

Gee that’s hard…..I have been blessed to have more good days than bad days. To name a few; engagement, grad school graduation, every Christmas, the day we brought our Izzy home…. any day spent traveling to a new place.

What’s been your greatest achievement in life thus far?

Completing graduate school, and finishing a 1/2 marathon.

What made the biggest difference in helping you achieve that goal?

Support of family and friends, setting expectations high for myself, knowing that I had full support of my mom and dad who knew I could do anything I put my mind too.

If you could solve one problem in the world – what would it be?

Having a home of love, trust, and hope for each orphaned child. There are too many lonely hurting kids out there who have no idea what it means to feel the arms of their mom hold them, and know the joy of hearing their dad say, “I’m so proud of you.” Each child should have open loving arms to run to when their world crashes, someone to pat them on the back and tell them to keep it up, someone to wipe away their tears and hold them…… and to tell them about their heavenly father whose love we can not even begin to fathom.

Kara Ellcey is my youngest sister. What else do you need to know?! 😉 She lives in Mesquite, Texas with her husband and their dog Izzy. She doesn’t blog or Tweet – but if you’re lucky you might be able to find her on Skype from time to time. Insurgency of Love & Weapons of Mass Beauty

Grace Bombs

The Outlaw Preachers (#outlawpreachers) have a great practice known simply as Grace Bombs.

Essentially, when someone’s hurting, feeling down, needing a hand to hold or a shoulder to cry on, everyone’s invited to record a short video or voice mail and the messages are collected and sent directly to that person ASAP.

Grace Bombs can also take the shape of a Flash Mob of Love via Twitter — with a mass of messages of encouragement directed towards individuals in need.

Imagine if all the Insurgents of Love put our heads together and found ways of putting Grace Bombs into mass production.

The feather pillow

Interlaken

An old proverb tells the story of a person who repeated gossip – some rumor about a neighbor.

Soon, the whole community had heard the rumor.

Later, the person who spread the gossip learned that the rumor was untrue.

The person was very sorry and went to an elder in the community who had a reputation for great wisdom to seek advice.

The girl behind the porn #icsex

This is my submission on the IdeaCamp week 1 topic of pornography.

Yesterday I shared a stat that said the average age a child first sees pornography is 11.

That may seem shocking for sure but I’m pretty sure that was around the time I saw my first helping of porn — if not sooner.

Growing up I remember getting “fixes” from a number of places.

And no matter where I found it, there was always an allure, something appealing about those women staring back at me. There was always an allure in thinking that they wanted me.
