As some of you may be able to realize more than others…. our hearing fades as we age. In fact the older we get, the less likely we are to hear certain tones and frequencies. I laugh sometimes at how I can pick out a high pitched buzz or ring while deeper sounds and voices can be muffled at times. If there’s a buzz or ring in a sound system it can drive me nuts. The same goes for the sound frequency a TV or computer monitor puts off just by being on. If there’s a TV or monitor on with no other noise it can really urk me.
So for those of us who can still hear it, here’s a ring tone for your cellphone that might be right up your alley and you won’t have to worry about annoying your teachers or co-workers or other folks whose hearing in the 17 kHz range is gone.

What do you wish someone would have told you when you graduated?
10 Lessons from Steve Jobs
Steve Jobs, founder and CEO of Apple Computers (you know the guys with those clever PC vs Mac commercials everyone keeps making parodies of – perhaps you’ve heard of them), has made his fortune making technology cool and useful.
Lifehack has 10 quotes from Jobs on how to hack your way through life and be a “success.”
- “Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower.â€
- “Be a yardstick of quality. Some people aren’t used to an environment where excellence is expected.
- “The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.â€
- “You know, we don’t grow most of the food we eat. We wear clothes other people make. We speak a language that other people developed. We use a mathematics that other people evolved… I mean, we’re constantly taking things. It’s a wonderful, ecstatic feeling to create something that puts it back in the pool of human experience and knowledge.â€
- “There’s a phrase in Buddhism, ‘Beginner’s mind.’ It’s wonderful to have a beginner’s mind.â€
- “We think basically you watch television to turn your brain off, and you work on your computer when you want to turn your brain on.â€
- “I’m the only person I know that’s lost a quarter of a billion dollars in one year…. It’s very character-building.â€
- “I would trade all of my technology for an afternoon with Socrates.â€
- “We’re here to put a dent in the universe. Otherwise why else even be here?â€
- “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.â€
What 10 Lessons would you give on how to be successful?
Using one square of toilet paper
So I’m sure you’ve all heard the story of Sheryl Crow telling everyone to use just one square of toilet paper. Well here’s an actual video of the concert at SMU. Joke or not? Judge for yourself.
And for the record, I’ve heard many people tell me that Marines are actually trained to use only one square of toilet paper per bathroom visit. Take that for what it’s worth as well.
How to live thrifty
McDonalds has a new fun feature on their website giving you great examples on how to save money on things like, chairs, clothes and hamburgers.
Make fire with a coke can and chocolate
If you’re stuck out on a cold day with nothing more than a coke can and a bar of chocolate, Wildwood Survival has a unique way to stay warm or heat up that rabbit you just killed.
I can’t say this works from first hand experience but I’m willing to give it a try.
