Anyone else use an auto-responder at e-mails when they’re out of town?
Or are you so tied to e-mail that you check it regardless?
Personally I don’t ever check work related e-mail from home unless it’s an absolute emergency, but since I’m going to be out of town, I thought I’d set up an auto-responder with a twist for my work account.
Here’s what I came up with (with a little help from the interwebs)…
Subject: Your message has been added to the que
You are receiving this automatic notification because I am out of the office. If I was in, chances are you wouldn’t have received anything at all.
Instead, your message has been added to a queuing system.
You are currently in 352nd place, and can expect to receive a reply in approximately 19 weeks.

But seriously, I’ll be returning [insert date].In case of an actual emergency related to the DCCCD catalog, or if you’d just like a friendly person to listen to talk to, please contact [my boss].
What about you? Do you use auto-responders? What do you typically use?
awesome ‘out of office’ and I think i might even use it in the future…
normally (and I do use one) it says
I am out of the office until [when-ever] all messages will be deleted unread. If your message is important please resend it when I am back in the office.
I like your idea.
Downside is – for some reason I have to save pretty much EVERY email that I get for archive/legal reasons. Otherwise there’d be a lot more deleting going on.
