Top 21 Albums of my Youth

The Search shared a great list of the top CCM albums of the 1990’s today. I think I owned every album on the list at one point or another — some of them I still have.

It got me thinking back to my own youth… primarily the 1990’s and the music I listened to. It was primarily a mix of CCM, Rock, Country and a few others thrown in. So without further ado, here are the Top 21 Albums of my Youth… (ranked primarily in order of how much time they spent in my single disk CD player)

What albums defined your youth?

  1. There's a bit more country on there than I enjoy, but there are definitely some hard-hitters. For me U2's Joshua Tree is always a favorite. I think Nirvana's Unplugged remains hauntingly good..and tragic. And to this day I can't help but turn up Jars of Clay's “Flood” every time I hear it. What's missing? Pear Jam's Ten, of course.

  2. Michael, yeah country kinda took hold in high school — it usually revolved around the girl I was dating at the time. HAHA!
    Pearl Jam's Ten was a good album but for some reason I never really got into them until later on. Eddie Vedder's voice kinda rubbed me the wrong way for a while. Today I'd say its one of the top albums, but growing up I didn't own a copy till college.
    Thanks for the input!

  3. Okay, you wanted a list…

    I didn't get a CD player until I was 17. Yes, they had been invented.

    I got a CD player before my parents. I guess that showed how “into” music they were.

    So, the albums that I consider defining my youth would be:

    * Limelight/Steve Taylor

    * The Wild Frontier/Randy Stonehill

    * Celebrate this Heartbeat/Randy Stonehill (a fairly mushy one…sorry)

    * There was a Garth Hewitt album in here too, but I can't recall the title

    * Spontaneous Combustion/Glenn Kaiser

    * Tumbling Ground/Black Peppercorns

    * Kiss the Son/Kevin Prosch Band

    These were all tapes.

    Then I got a job and CDs…

  4. Sweet list Andy.

    I had one or two Randy Stonehill albums along the way and a Steve Taylor CD as well. I don't think I've heard of the others. I'll have to hunt them down and give them a listen.

    Thanks for sharing!
