Sleepless in Seattle

As I write this, we’ve just arrived back home (roughly an hour ago) from our quick whirlwind trip to Seattle.

Laurie’s already sound asleep as I catch up on some e-mails and such before heading that way as well.

We had a great time seeing many of Seattle’s great sites…

Love is all you need

On December 7th, 2009 at 1:30pm GMT Starbucks invited musicians from all over the world to sing together at the same time to raise awareness for AIDS in Africa. In that one breathtaking moment, musicians from 156 countries played “All You Need is Love” together. Watch now, as musicians from all around the world come together and share a song.

You can still take part by donating your a video of yourself (or you and your friends) singing the song. Starbucks will donate a nickel to the Global Fund to help fight AIDS in Africa for every video that’s submitted.

Find out more http://starbucksloveproject.com/

My favorite point in the video is the boy belting out “All you need is love!” from Israel, around the mid-point in the song.

What’s your favorite point(s)?

coffee

St. Arbucks is kicking off a new add campaign with new print ads that really highlight the greatness that is St. Arbucks. They work to break down the myths and stereotypes of the worldwide coffee giant. The ads doen’t knock the competitors as much as really show what St. Arbucks is about and why you should make it your third place.

Starbucks is closing!

From 5:30-8:30 this evening, there’s going to be trouble. Feet will tap, heads will ache and sweat will trickle down restless foreheads. Starbucks is closing.

6 weeks ago, Howard Schultz took over the reins (again) as CEO of Starbucks. Since then, he’s been on a mission to return the company to its previous form. Today, every store throughout the nation will close for three hours for “remedial espresso training.” Or in Schultz’ terms, “to teach, educate and share our love of coffee, and the art of espresso.”

Wow. What an undertaking! 5:30 – 8:30 on Tuesday nights is a very likely time we’ll be stopping by one of our local Starbucks to grab a hot drink before our community group – as do several others in our group. Might make for restless (or sleepy) meeting time tonight.

Since this news came from CMS – what if our churches closed for one weekend service to focus on staff/leadership etc? What about your place of work – think your boss would close the doors for 3 hours one week to improve your appreciation for your job?

Beaten again and again

So Friday night is date night around Casa de Blundell. It’s been kind of inactive due to the holiday season.
So I think we both figured it was time to reenact this important piece of legislation.
The great thing about date night is there’s no requirements for what we do, where we do it or how we do it – just as long as we do it together – just the two of us.
We had a great time last night.

We made a huge dinner of homemade spaghetti and meatballs along with salad and bread.

dinner

Ok – it was homemade in that we put it all together for a full menu.
HEB had one of their great specials a week ago that I’m a super fan of. Buy a package of frozen meatballs, get spaghetti noodles and sauce for free. Awesome! $6 for the whole thing. Laurie bought some artisan bread and pre-packaged salad Friday evening and we put it all together. We also made a dipping sauce for the bread with crushed red peppers, olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

After dinner we talked a little more about the Casa de Blundell.com re-design and then headed to our local Starbucks to enjoy some hot drinks and reading.
She’s working on “Emily Ever After” that I got her for Christmas and I did some more reading in “Ragamuffin Gospel.”
Although with the girls working at Starbucks I found it hard to concentrate on what I was reading verses the latest gossip about their relationships.

We came home and I built the first fire we’ve had in our new house.

first fire

It was a rough start – hadn’t realized how small our fireplace actually was and the big log I put in never really got started. Glad we had some fire starters and Duraflame logs.

As the fire grew we played three rounds of Sequence. Laurie beat me again and again and again.

sequence

We started with one game, went to best of 3, then best of 4/5. Apparently she didn’t want to give me a chance to win ;-). That’s OK. She beat me three straight games. Everytime I started to get some offense built I had to jump over and play defense. And if I remember correctly I was usually three good cards away from beating her each game. But no excuses – 2nd place is the first loser :-).

After the games we had the pleasure of cleaning up after Presley and her upset stomach. We finally called it a night and crashed for the long night.

Great time! Doesn’t get much better than spending time alone with my life. I LOVE YOU BABY! Thanks for making my life fun and memorable.

What being rich tastes like

D Magazine blogger Sarah Eveans shares a humorous side of Starbucks in Highland Park:

This morning I stopped into Starbucks in Highland Park Village to get coffee. (I know, I know, but I really don’t go very often, and the aforementioned Trinitinis were making my head swell.) I ordered my drink, and the barista called the order back. But instead of saying, “One grande, nonfat, sugar-free vanilla latte,” he said: “One grande, nonfat Highland Park.” Apparently, this drink is so popular ’round these parts they have renamed it to make their lives easier. So, when my red cup was placed in front of me, I took the lid off and poured the steaming coffee right into the lap of the first Botoxed cougar in $700 workout clothes I saw. No, I didn’t. I drank it, and it was gooood.

Reminds me of Chris’ trip/interview to People Newspaper, D Magazine’s sister publication. He said when he walked into the office he felt like alarms were going off all around him saying, “POOR! POOR! POOR!
