Love is all you need

On December 7th, 2009 at 1:30pm GMT Starbucks invited musicians from all over the world to sing together at the same time to raise awareness for AIDS in Africa. In that one breathtaking moment, musicians from 156 countries played “All You Need is Love” together. Watch now, as musicians from all around the world come together and share a song.

You can still take part by donating your a video of yourself (or you and your friends) singing the song. Starbucks will donate a nickel to the Global Fund to help fight AIDS in Africa for every video that’s submitted.

My favorite point in the video is the boy belting out “All you need is love!” from Israel, around the mid-point in the song.

What’s your favorite point(s)?

Emmanuel. God with us.

Away in a manger

On this Christmas we remember….

Light came into the world and said,

“I will crush your darkness.”

Justice came into the world and said,

“I will proclaim your freedom.”

Peace came into the world and said,

“I will turn your conflict.”

The Word came into the world and said,

“I will call your name.”

Love came into the world and said,

“I will share your life, always.”

Amen

Goosebumps and Justice (advent reflections)

If you haven’t had a chance to – I’d highly recommend taking 40 min and listening to our advent reflections from the podcast last week.

Perhaps pull it up on your computer/Hi-Fi/iPods and listen as a family around the fire tonight or tomorrow evening.

Enjoy the thoughts, reflections and music and remember what this season of the year is all about.

5 reasons I love being in a small group

Jonathan and Aaron

Abraham Piper (who has a great blog that you should be reading) shared 5 reasons he doesn’t like being in a small group this week.

I don’t disagree with his reasons, but thought I’d share the flip side – 5 reasons I love being in a small group.

  • I love watching people grow in their faith
  • I love seeing people build sanctuary (spaces of grace) for others
  • I realize I’m not the only one struggling and wrestling
  • I learn many things from the stories of others
  • The food is great

What about you? What do you love about small groups/community groups? What do you dislike about them?

Jesus loves the little children

Why do we teach children – “Jesus loves the little children…” but then when they “grow up” we show them that Jesus doesn’t love them unless they fit certain requirements?

Jesus loves the little children,
All the children of the world.
Red and yellow, black and white,
All are precious in His sight,
Jesus loves the little children of the world.

Live Simple

So that others might simply live.”

Right now we’re trying to raise money for our friends to keep their house and avoid foreclosure.

My sister’s been raising money to help a family afford their home study for an adoption.

Amy and her family are eating beans and rice all month long in order to help others fund their adoption.

Scott Harrison, and countless others, are giving up their birthday presents to provide clean water for folks around the world.

A boy in our small group has given up his Christmas and birthday presents over the last year to support a child through Compassion International.

What things/causes/issues are you making sacrifices for in your own life, in order to help others live?
