Tuesday Briefs

Completely forgot to post the Monday Briefs yesterday. Sorry about that! In it’s place, this week we bring you, “Tuesday Briefs.”

highlight(s) of the week ::
Wow! I’m not even sure I can remember what we did this last week. It seems like it just flew by. I think the highlights of the week were (again) just hanging out with people who I just really enjoy hanging out with.

Wednesday night is Laurie’s Bible study night at Northwest so I spent some time hanging out at Chick-Fil-A in Cedar Hill eating dinner and editing my novel (I’m about half-way through the first editing round). Afterwards I stopped by to see the Lehmanns and then Aaron and I got to hang out at White Rhino Coffee House.

Thursday night I skipped the gym and decided to rush home to meet Laurie for dinner (at Chick-Fil-A in Waxahachie) and enjoyed just getting to spend some time with her alone before we both rushed off our separate ways again.

Saturday was our regular community group night and we had a great time hanging out with our “small group” of us and the Kiefers.

And then again last night, we had fun hanging out with friends for Aiden’s birthday party.

work update ::
I had a second interview for the job with the DCCCD Mar/Comm department today. This was a team/group interview and I felt like it went well. Hope they did too. I’m thinking this would be an ideal position for me but we’ll wait till Friday or Monday to see if they think so too.

freelance work ::
Finished part one of a slideshow presentation for coffeehousechurches.com. They’ve got some great resources over there so take some time and check them out.

gym/weight update ::
We’re doing the 20 mile Tour of Dallas bike ride this Saturday (April 4) from downtown Dallas to White Rock Lake. I’ll welcome your prayers :-).

looking forward to ::
Believe it or not (from the statement above) I’m looking forward to the bike ride this Saturday. It’ll be something fun to do with Laurie and Todd and I’ll be glad to say I completed it when we’re done. It’s just one step in hoping to do Hotter’N Hell this year or next.

we talked about God, life, church, #twurch and much more – even had to pick up the conversation and continue it in the morning over breakfast.

Things I’ve learned from Twitter (in the last 24 hours)

What we do

I was sharing with my life, Laurie, the other night that it’s amazing how intentional folks are on Twitter (and many on Facebook) about relationships.

I can send a txt message to 30 people and I don’t typically get any responses. I can share one message on Twitter – and within minutes 10 people from literally around the world let me know they’re praying for me. (UPDATE: I don’t mean that to say that folks who get my txt messages don’t care — see comments — but to hear or see someone actually say it does me good. I guess that’s why one of my big love languages is verbal/encouragement 🙂 ).

You really do have to be intentional about building relationships on Twitter. Otherwise it probably seems really pointless and a waste of time.

If you’re not into building relationships – you probably wouldn’t care that Jonny Baker is planning to live blog from an emerging worship conference in Oklahoma City.

Olly says girls have skills when it comes to putting on make-up in all sorts of situations.

Tripp Fuller and Chad Crawford scored an interview with Phyllis Tickle to discuss The Great Emergence. I’m looking forward to hearing the interview on their Homebrewed Christianity Podcast.

Mark Batterson is working on a new book – and likes to do it early in the morning.

Many people are still super buzzed about Obama’s election. However I think things are a little different for my friends over on Facebook. Does that make Facebook more conservative and Twitter more liberal? Or is just my friends?

Kevin Hendricks has written over 12,000 words in the novel he’s writing for nanowrimo.

Bruce Wagner has created a network at unitysocial.com. Looking forward to checking it out in a few minutes.

Sara Jane is going to UMHB’s homecoming this weekend.

Thomas went to see Sigur Ros last night while his wife stayed at home making Christmas cards and many of us on Twitter gave him a hard time about it. Today he found out he’s hosting a quiz for his team at work.

Trucker Frank is loading his truck in Shakopee MN, where it’s snowing a bit and then he’s heading to KC.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg! If you’re still reading this, you should probably be on Twitter. If you’re not – well then I’m talking to myself – and my friends already on Twitter ;-).

My friend Lanessa has shared more on her situation including a thanks to all who have been praying for her and caring for her. Thought each and everyone of you who have been praying for her would like to know. Portions of her thoughts are below. You can read the complete update on her blog. (oh and yes – her boys are all named after the super heroes you see below :-))

I have been meaning to write this for a few days, going over what I would like to say every night as I go to sleep. This trial in my life the last month has shaken me spiritually too, not just physically. To wake up one day in a hospital room, nurses buzzing around you, IV’s in you and then to have a doctor you don’t know come in to tell you you had brain surgery was mind blowing, then to realize you can’t talk, can’t walk and your head has been shaved was even harder…

To those that couldn’t make my side, your prayers meant just as much. Thank you for believing that Christ could pull me out of the brain swelling and surgery alive. I have been learning to ask specifically to God what I am needing, and your prayers of hope and healing is exactly what I need….

Did you know we have had meals come every other night since this started?
Did you know I had girls I hardly know lend me a changing table and glider for the baby?
Did you know I now have formula and diapers till Clark is a year old?
Did you know women would come and play and do crafts with my children?
Did you know I had babysitters come anytime I needed, for long hours?
Did you know we never had to worry about $ for Jason’s gas and food?
Did you know I had churches all over the US praying for me?
Did you know I had a flower arrangement or gift sent to me every week?
Did you know I had a nurse make a CD of Christian singers she thought I would like?
Did you know I had my OB doc bring me a smoothie I wanted as a surprise?
Did you know my whole Sunday school came to pray over me?

Yes, they wrote an article in the paper about ME, but this trial has been about YOU, the person who cared enough to come, pray, and encourage. Thank you.
