Arcade Fire in The Suburbs – Initial thoughts

Arcade Fire - The Suburbs

I first heard about Arcade Fire’s latest release, The Suburbs via a snippet I heard on Sound Opinions Sunday night.

I’ve heard of the band, but honestly could have never told you much about them before Sunday night — other than kids seem to really dig them — and it sounded like Sound Opinions did too.

So when I Kevin Hendricks alerted me that their album was only $3.99 for download from Amazon, I grabbed it up.

And now I invite you to join me for my initial listen to the album….

Five questions with Sara Skaggs

Everyone has a story. What’s yours?

What does an average day look like for you?

Probably pretty boring, from an outsiders opinion :). I usually only get up when one of the kids wake up – though this is something I’m working on changing about myself. From that point on, I change a lot of diapers, I get a lot of snacks, drinks, and bottles, I clean, and I play. Most mornings we have some sort of errand to run, or a play group to attend, both of which are nice opportunities to get out of the house. Thrown in during the early afternoon is about a 2 hour nap time, which is when I get my personal things done for the day, and then usually take a nap. Then comes dinner, Daddy time, bath, and bed time! So my average days might seem boring to some, but I’d say they’re pretty awesome – I wouldn’t change it for the world 🙂

Weekend photo walk

Terrell 2010 photo walkers

This weekend, I enjoyed exploring neighboring Terrell, Texas with my camera and a few folks from around the area.

We took part in a photo walk, organized by Brian Stout, which is essentially a bunch of people with an interest in photography get together to walk around an area and take photos.

There are no set rules and no certain skill sets required — just enjoy the views and snap away with your camera.

One for my Forney peeps…

We missed the public meeting, but we’ve just found out that TxDOT will be closing the FM 740 bridge near the intersection with FM 460, starting today (July 21) and lasting for the next 12-13 months.

The bridge has been reduced to one lane only for the past several months, but the bridge will be completely closed as crews work to rebuild the bridge.

We’ve been really curious about this project, as it seems all construction and repairs have come to an absolute standstill since just before we moved to Forney in May. Continue reading TxDOT to close FM 740 bridge in Forney
