The dog that (almost) got away

This might be better under “Living with a Dog” but I think it relates to “Living with a Girl” as well.
When I lived all alone in my own place in Belton I had two dogs. The world’s greatest dogs, Payton and Precious.

One of the great things about Payton and Precious was that because they had each other and a pretty big backyard they could play with each other all day even if I was to tired to play.
And they were perfectly content to do so.
Another great thing about Payton and Precious is that they were outside dogs. If I let them in the house for awhile and they got on my nerves I’d just send them right back outside again. I’ve always had outside dogs. I’ve never had an inside dog.
Now that I live with a girl, I have an inside dog. Funny how that happens. You marry a girl and get the dog with her ;-).
Granted, Presley is actually a lot of fun. I like Presley a lot — most of the time.
Not a huge fan of hers in the morning once Laurie lives and Presley gets the idea that she can jump in bed with me and I have to shoe/shove her off. And not a big fan of hers when she only wants to play and I only want to rest. But hey – that’s the joys of having a dog.
Another thing about Presley is we live in a townhome. Great for us, not so great for her. She gets to stay in a kennel/cage most of the day and for some reason she won’t go potty on her own in the backyard. We have to put her on a leash every time she needs to take care of business and walk her across the street or to the “designated areas” for doggie business.
It’s usually quite fun though to watch Presley scratch and sniff around the area until she finds her perfect spot.
I tell you all this simply to relay this humorous story from this morning.
I walked Presley across the street as normal and waited for her to take care of business. We have a retractable leash so we have some control on how far we want her to go.
As I waited for her to find her perfect spot I reached into my pocket and the leash slipped out of my hand.
A sudden fear swept over me. “OH NO! She’s going to take off and I’m going to spend the next 20 minutes trying to get her back.”
I went from a calm standing position to my 6’5″ frame lunging at the ground to grab the leash.
And of course, along the otherwise quiet street, a car was passing by just as the whole thing took place.
Luckily Presley was so caught up in finding her perfect spot that she didn’t even realize her moment of freedom.
I’m sure the passing driver had a confused look on their face as they saw me lunge toward my dog who was busy sniffing a flower.
Regardless, it all turned out well in another day of living with a girl & her dog. And at least this morning I didn’t have to get Presley out from under the bed when it was time to go.

Moby makes music available to Indie Filmmakers

This is HUGE! At least to me…

Moby has revamped his website (looks very cool by the way) and is starting a new feature called, “film music.”

and here’s the biggie(well, at least i think so)…there’s a new part of moby.com called ‘film music’. it’s essentially a function that allows independent and non-profit filmmakers to download and use my music for free. we’re starting with about 60 pieces of eclectic, unreleased, film music, but over-time i’ll continue to update it and add more music.
these 60 pieces of music can be downloaded and used for free by student filmmakers and indie filmmakers and, basically, anyone making a non-commercial* film, be it 2 minutes long or 400 minutes long.
if you’re a filmmaker(or are in need of free music for a non-commercial film or video)you can sign up and download and use this music for free.
i have a lot of friends in the independent film world, and their biggest complaint is that it’s either expensive or onerous to license music for their films.
so that’s why i’m making a lot of my music available for free use for non-profit, independent films.
i hope you find it useful.
i hope you enjoy the new moby.com.
please look below for the *.
-moby
*-yup, the asterisk. the music in the film-music part of moby.com is available for free use for student films and independent films and non-profit films and shorts and etc. the music is available so long as these films are not used for commercial(i.e-making money)purposes.
if you use the music in your film and your film goes on to make money: great, and congratulations.
before your film makes money, though, you’ll have to apply for a commercial license for the music. i PROMISE that the commercial licenses won’t be expensive or difficult to obtain.
and any money that this music generates from commercial licenses will be given to a charity.
this year that charity will be the humane society.
ok, i hope that’s clear. thanks.

Looks like encounter will be hearing a lot more Moby for the films/videos I make for Sunday morning. 🙂

Texas Women

From email:

Three men were sitting together bragging about how they had given their new wives duties.

The first man had married a woman from Colorado and had told her that she was going to do the dishes and house cleaning. It took a couple days, but on the third day he came home to a clean house and all dishes washed and dinner cooked.

The second man had married a woman from Nebraska He had given his wife orders that she was to do all the cleaning, dishes, and the cooking. The first day he didn’t see any results, but the next day he saw it was better. By the third day, he saw his house was clean, the dishes were done, and there was a huge dinner on the table.

The third man had married a girl from Texas . He told her that her duties were to keep the house cleaned, dishes washed, lawn mowed, laundry washed and hot meals on the table for every meal…….He said the first day he didn’t see anything, the second day he didn’t see anything, but by the third day some of the swelling had gone down and he could see a little out of his left eye, enough to fix himself a bite to eat and load the dishwasher.

Can you hear this?

As some of you may be able to realize more than others…. our hearing fades as we age. In fact the older we get, the less likely we are to hear certain tones and frequencies. I laugh sometimes at how I can pick out a high pitched buzz or ring while deeper sounds and voices can be muffled at times. If there’s a buzz or ring in a sound system it can drive me nuts. The same goes for the sound frequency a TV or computer monitor puts off just by being on. If there’s a TV or monitor on with no other noise it can really urk me.
So for those of us who can still hear it, here’s a ring tone for your cellphone that might be right up your alley and you won’t have to worry about annoying your teachers or co-workers or other folks whose hearing in the 17 kHz range is gone.
