Great party fun

My favorite photo website, Photojojo has some great ideas on games and party projects to play with your snappy digital camera.

There are some fun ideas here to get everyone involved and maybe make some new friends. Using Flickr afterwards to share the photos can be even more fun. I think I’m going to recommend these ideas for our community 2.0 leaders to use as ice breakers.

8 ways to care for your allergies without breaking your budget

Sarah over at Wisebread has several pointers for helping relieve your allergies without breaking the bank.
I’m looking into more and more of these as my (assumed) allergies seem to come and go throughout the year. I think they also play a big part in my infamous snoring — so I know Laurie is hoping I find some solutions before April 28th.
Check the list and then let us know if you have other suggestions that tend to help you.

  • Alternate decongestants – this is an interesting one. It seems like after using one decongestant for a while my body builds up immunity to it so I have to rotate brands
  • Buy decongestants at bulk stores
  • Take lots of showers – I have no problem with taking lots of warm/hot showers. The downside is you may end up paying for it later when you get your water/electric bill.
  • Drink mint tea
  • Use a saline nasal spray
  • Try homeopathic remedies
  • Drink lots of water
  • Walk up stairs. Repeat. – good thing our new townhome is two story

Any other suggestions?

Stations in your home

What stations should you have in your home?
Lifehack has a list of seven essential stations that every home should have to stay organized.

  1. Destination station
  2. Communication station
  3. Donation station
  4. Gift and Shipping station
  5. Education station
  6. Creation station
  7. Administration station

Which of these do you take advantage of? I think the only permanent station I have in my loft right now is a Sleeping station. What about you?

254 uses for Vinegar

Oil & Vinegar Bottles

Yup. 254.
That’s above and beyond the exploding rockets or volcanoes that I used to make with vinegar and baking soda. Those were the days.
Just be sure you don’t add red food coloring to the rocket or volcano and explode it in your mom’s kitchen while she’s out running errands.
And if you chose to do the above I do recommend sticking with vinegar rather than the super-charged bleach option.
What do you use vinegar for?

My Swingline stapler

I just got a brand new Swingline stapler for my desk. Sadly it’s not a red one as in Office Space but a valuable piece of equipment as well.
I also got a new Rolodex which I was almost shocked to find the C-D divider missing. I thought, who steals a C-D divider out of a Rolodex? Seriously who does that. Then I realized it some how got covered up by another piece of paper. Ha. Ha ha. Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha.
Har har har har har har ha ha har har.
(sorry about the psycho bit there…)

Avoiding processed food

Wisebread has found some information from Sally Fallon concerning the threat of processed foods.
I’ve seen more and more about the dangers/lack of nutrition in processed food, including info in the South Beach Diet.
Some of the areas Wisebread highlights are:

  • Food processing – industrial damage.
  • Packaged Cereal – now without goodness.
  • Rat experiments
  • Milk
  • Milk Allergies
  • Powdered Milk
  • Orange Juice
  • Processed Food Affects Fertility and Facial Structure

To sum up…as I say, the complete article by Sally Fallon goes into so much more detail, and also covers topics like natural and artificial flavors, hydrogenated oils and trans fats. I urge you to read it, then to look much more closely at the labels on all of your grocery store items.
Spend your money wisely, yes. But don’t always go for the cheap foods, because the more expensive, genuinely organic alternative may cost a little more but it certainly won’t be as costly to your health.
