Austin this weekend

Well Laurie and I decided to stick with our original plans and head to Austin for the night this weekend.
We’re staying on 11th street in downtown Austin and plan on getting there tomorrow evening and will probably stay through Saturday afternoon or evening.
We’re still making our plans but I think we’ll go tour the capital, maybe do some geocaching and who knows what else.
Got any suggestions? Let us know.

  1. Randomly found your site from cnn.com.

I’ve heard that geocaching in the Barton Creek can be quite fun. But I haven’t ever been personally. Hiked a lot of the greenbelt though. Quite nce. A walk along Barton Springs and around on the Town Lake Trail can be wonderful.

El Arroyo’s at 5th and Mopac is a great place to eat if you like TexMex. A drive to the Salt Lick BBQ is certainly an great experience. Bring cash (no credit/debit) and an appetite!

The capitol building and grounds are fun. Be sure to visit the annex part if you go. A drive around and walk through the UT campus is cool. Other suggestions: Bob Bullock State History Museum, the Drag, South Congress, Lake Travis, Mozart’s Coffee shop on Lake Austin.

    Enjoy!

  3. Randomly found my site from CNN? Odd. But hey thanks for the tips. Those all sound good.
We’re meeting friends for dinner or lunch tonight so I’m sure they’ll take us to a good eatery.
I’ve been to Mozart’s before – good stuff. We might even have to meander over to Kirby Lane as well.
I’m sure we’ll have plenty to report back on when we get back Saturday night.

  5. mmm…. Kerbey Lane pancakes. I was just at the south location a couple of weeks ago for a late night dinner with my wife. Yummy!

Glad I found your blog. At some point, I’m going to have to resurrect my own blog and start posting again. Have a great weekend!

  7. Watch the Congress Avenue Bridge bat flight by boat . A company near one of the big hotels there on town lake sells tickets to folks and takes people out. Lot of fun.
