Get your jazz trance on

Thomas* posted some info on an album by Jonah Dempcy/Revolution Void.
From Milieu:

Revolution Void is a project by producer and jazz pianist Jonah Dempcy, mixing jazz and breakbeat. You may remember acclaimed musicians who decided to produce drum and bass, and it turning out as complete garbage: nothing there for jazz fans, nothing there for drum and bass fans. Increase the Dosage, however, combines breakbeat and melodic electronica in a charming way that makes for something not only worth listening to, but also something you’ll keep coming back to for years to come.
With bass by Matthew Garrison, sax by Seamus Blake and Darryl Estes, and guitars by Nicolas Manel, there’s a lot of serious musicians contributing some excellent material to the album. This, and careful production, makes Increase the Dosage an exceptional package. Surprisingly, it’s free to download, released under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 2.0 license.

It’s a great jazz/trance album. Especially from a 21 year old producer. And you can download the whole mix for free from the website.
The downside is that I had to do a weird conversion on the ID tags to get it to play in Windows Media or Yahoo Player. I had to tell my computer to open each file in iTunes and then went to Advanced > Convert ID3 Tags before it would play in my media player. But otherwise, great album. Check it out.

*Someone should invent a patch for blogger that lets you do a keyboard shortcut for common links and phrases. But thanks again Thomas for another great headsup.

POD to play Rey Mesterio in

I’m getting anxious for Wrestlemania XXII tomorrow night.
POD will play Rey Mesterio’s entrance into the ring.
From WWE.com:

P.O.D. to play Mysterio to the ring at WrestleMania
When Rey Mysterio hits the ring at WrestleMania for the biggest match of his career, P.O.D. will be there to perform his entrance theme, “Booyaka 619.”
The versatile and accomplished band P.O.D. has become an MTV juggernaut with such hit albums as The Fundamental Elements of Southtown, Satellite and most recently,Testify.
After the performance on April 2, P.O.D. will bring their unique sound to a new recording of Rey Mysterio’s “Booyaka 619” entrance theme. The track will be featured on the upcoming WWE/Columbia Records release, Wreckless Intent, which will arrive in stores and online nationwide this spring.
P.O.D. is a natural fit to perform Mysterio’s infectious entrance music not just because of its musical style; both P.O.D. and Rey proudly hail from the “619” — San Diego, Calif.

WWE has also used POD’s Boom for Saturday Night’s Main Event last month and has used their music for several other promos as well.

EDIT: See POD play Mysterio in
Order the new WWE album with the song on it
Order Wrestlemania XXII

U2 Eucharist

The Boston Globe has an article on special “U2 Eucharist,” a communion service punctuated by the band’s rock music.

Multicolor streamers flew over worshippers’ heads at this service. Children danced by the altar. Plasma-screen TVs illuminated the gothic sanctuary. Some people sang and clapped. A few looked puzzled.
Brooks said the special service is part of an effort to reinvigorate his congregation by infusing it with young people and those interested in social activism. The service included an offering for local charities and enlisted volunteers for the One Campaign, an effort to alleviate global poverty that’s backed by U2’s lead singer, Bono.
“We absolutely need to grow in order to survive,” Brooks said.
Weeks before the service, church members conducted what Brooks called “guerrilla marketing,” posting fliers at coffee and sandwich shops, bars and colleges. About 130 people showed up for the Friday night service, roughly the same turnout as a Sunday morning.

What do you think? Do U2 songs have a place in the church? During a communion service? They’re being accepted on Christian radio, but only if they’re covered by the likes of Delirious or Chris Tomlin.
