What We’ve Been Up To

The boys are 2.5 years old now and very active and curious little guys. We have learned that we need to get them active everyday to run off their energy or they will not go to sleep easily at night.  On the weekends, we try to get them to a park or some other type of fun activity.  Some of their favorite things right now are firetrucks “wee-wee trucks”, tractors and trains “choo-choo’s”.

We recently took the boys to see Uncle Matt at the fire station and he let them look inside the firetruck, and he even took them for a ride around the block in it – sirens and all!  I think this is one of my all time favorite pictures of Hayden now, it is the look of pure joy on a little boys face:

Jonathan took the boys on a train ride (the DART rail) last weekend and I think they loved every minute of it.

In the last few weeks the boys’ vocabulary has exploded and they are saying soooo much more.  They aren’t just saying new words, but they are trying to put sentences together and form phrases.  Hayden is really the one that has surprised us.  He has always been a little behind Ian in the language department.  I think it was just because Ian would talk for him and he didn’t have a reason to say anything.  I also think he was just being lazy and didn’t want to talk.  For the longest time when he wanted water he would just say “wa” instead of water.  It drove us nuts, we would always make him say water and he would, but now he says water consistently.  They both would always say “vroom” instead of car but in the last few weeks they have been saying car, which is actually more like “cow” but its progress!  I haven’t heard them say “vroom” once in the last few weeks.

We decided to finally cut all of Ian’s hair off for the summer and he instantly looked 2 years older!  A few weeks later we decided to go ahead and buzz Hayden’s hair too so he could have a cooler haircut for our hot Texas summers!  The kid sweats like crazy – his hold head will be wet just from running around the house.

We are trying to get the boys ready for the arrival of their new sister, but they are still pretty young and don’t quite understand what’s happening.  They talk about baby “…” (hehe, you’ll find out her name when she arrives!) and they know mommy has a baby in her tummy, but do they really know whats happening….no! They have no clue that a baby is going to come and live with them.  It’ll be interesting to see how they respond to her once she is actually here – only a few weeks left!

We took the boys to Ham Orchards last weekend for some home made peach ice cream.  I think they liked it! You can pick your own blackberries and peaches there but we didn’t do that when we went.  Maybe next year.

We got the boys a little pool for the backyard and they love the little “fountain” that it has.  The pool may not much, but for a 2 year old, its a lot of fun.

I am so ready for the summer to be over, and it just started! It get so hot here and I hate the heat.  Give me the 70-80 degree weather and I’m happy.  Unfortunately for the boys, this heat means that they don’t get to go outside s often, and unfortunately for us, because they don’t get to run their energy off so its harder to put them to sleep at night.  Its a lose, lose for everyone!
