This weekend, I enjoyed exploring neighboring Terrell, Texas with my camera and a few folks from around the area.
We took part in a photo walk, organized by Brian Stout, which is essentially a bunch of people with an interest in photography get together to walk around an area and take photos.
There are no set rules and no certain skill sets required — just enjoy the views and snap away with your camera.
Unfortunately, I didn’t have much of a chance to get to know many of the other photographers. I arrived just as the event was beginning and didn’t get to stick around for the meet-up afterwards since I had lunch plans with another friend — but it was a great time nonetheless.
Huge potential
I really love the idea of the photo walk.
I think it has a lot of potential to be great for making friends out of strangers in communities of any size.
I know of one blogger who invited other bloggers to join him for a photo walk of Las Vegas during a convention last year and he also used the photo walk as a chance to give advice and tips to other photographers.
And I think this could be great fun for small groups, college groups or whomever.
What group of folks could you organize for a photo walk?
Perhaps gather a group and do a photo walk around your neighborhood, a local park, or pick a particular theme…

I’ve posted all my photos on Flickr or you can browse them below.
Let me know which one’s your favorite and I’ll pick the top vote getter to submit for the National Photo Walk contest.
You can also view other photos from the event on the event’s Flickr group.
Thanks! Did you have a preference as to which angle?
I liked the house numbered 109.5
I'm sorry, I'm not really a photographer, but my preference was photo number DSC_0462
Photographer or not – I don't care… we're all on equal ground around here!
