Affordable Care Act question

So if the GOP gets their way and mandate portion of the Affordable Care Act is delayed, the people who do sign up will all be sick – the people who delay will likely be the healthy ones.

What happens when only sick people sign up for insurance?

Everything I’ve heard points to the dreaded death spiral for the insurance company – and likely the ultimate collapse of the system.

So it makes a lot of sense for the GOP to want to delay the mandate.

Am I missing something? Is anyone talking about this?

A few friends are sharing this post on social media:

I received the following from a friend in Ohio, a grandmother in her 60s:

“I actually made it through this morning at 8 a.m. I have a pre-existing condition (Type 1 Diabetes) and my income base was 45K-55K annually.

“I chose Tier 2 ‘Silver Plan’ and my monthly insurance premiums came out to $597 with a $13,988 yearly deductible! There is NO POSSIBLE way that I can afford this so I ‘Opt-Out’ and chose to continue along with no insurance.

“I received an email tonight at 5 p.m. informing me that my fine would be $4,037 and could be attached to my yearly income tax return. Then you make it to the ‘REPERCUSSIONS PORTION’ for “non-payment” of yearly fine.

“First, your drivers license will be suspended until paid, and if you go 24 consecutive months with ‘non-payment,’ you will have a federal tax lien placed on your home.

“You can agree to give your bank information so that they can easily ‘Automatically withdraw’ your ‘penalties’ weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly! This by no means is ‘free’ or even ‘affordable.’”

Apparently the Killeen Daily Herald actually ran it as a letter to the editor on their website.

Obamacare vs. The Affordable Care Act

A CNBC poll found that 46 percent of Americans oppose Obamacare, while only 37 percent oppose the Affordable Care Act.

Jimmy Kimmel sent his Q&A crew out into the streets to find out what the American public think about the “two plans” and the healthcare debate.

Not only do people have different opinions about Obamacare and the Affordable Care Act (they’re the same thing!) they often disagree with one or the other in name and then like most everything the law provides when you break it down.

Or as Kimmel says, “It’s just the opposite of a McNugget.”

I’ve never had too many dealings with doctors and health insurance.

The last few years I’ve done my annual checkup/physical every December and I may go see the doctor to get a prescription for a cold or something similar.

And I’ve had several times where I was told by a dentist or doctor’s office that a procedure would be “covered” by my insurance, only to find out later that I would be paying out of pocket for the majority of the cost.

But with the boys, I’m seeing a whole ‘nother side of the health care system.
