Found: Cards Against Humanity – A free card game for horrible people

Unlike most of the party games you’ve played before, Cards Against Humanity is as despicable and awkward as you and your friends.

The game is simple. Each round, one player asks a question from a Black Card, and everyone else answers with their funniest White Card.

Aaron Wood says its a lot like Apples to Apples.

Love that it’s available as a free download via Creative Commons or you can purchase the game pre-packaged for $25.

Update your WordPress copyright date automatically

Three months into the new year and I’m still coming across several websites that I manage that are still showing a copyright for last year.

DOH!

It’s easy to forget as the calendar rolls over to update all your copyright (or Creative Commons) tags on your websites, so why not automate it?

Simply replace the latest year (i.e. © 2005-2010 Jonathan D. Blundell) with this simple code:

<?php echo date('Y'); ?>

So you’re resulting copyright line will look like this:

© 2005-<?php echo date('Y'); ?> Jonathan D. Blundell

And every year, your copyright statement will update with the current year.

Easy peasy!

Now I just need to go update this in all my footers… DOH!

Facebook to users, ‘We own you!’

n68335057941_720

The headlines a little misleading. They don’t claim they own you… just own all your content and everything else you post to their site.

They’ve changed a little paragraph in their terms of service to read ::

You are solely responsible for the User Content that you Post on or through the Facebook Service. You hereby grant Facebook an irrevocable, perpetual, non-exclusive, transferable, fully paid, worldwide license (with the right to sublicense) to (a) use, copy, publish, stream, store, retain, publicly perform or display, transmit, scan, reformat, modify, edit, frame, translate, excerpt, adapt, create derivative works and distribute (through multiple tiers), any User Content you (i) Post on or in connection with the Facebook Service or the promotion thereof subject only to your privacy settings or (ii) enable a user to Post, including by offering a Share Link on your website and (b) to use your name, likeness and image for any purpose, including commercial or advertising, each of (a) and (b) on or in connection with the Facebook Service or the promotion thereof. You represent and warrant that you have all rights and permissions to grant the foregoing licenses.

posted this earlier this evening on Facebook….

Facebook claims ownership of everything you post on their site

As of Feb 4, Facebook updated their terms of service to claim ownership of everything you post to their site — even after you might choose to cancel your account with them.

I’m not real happy with this at all. I’ve made 99% of my creative content available with a Creative Commons 3.0 license. That basically says that you’re free to use and share my content as long as you give me credit, don’t use it for commercial reasons (make money off of it) and you don’t change the licensing of it (i.e. Copyright the material).

But Facebook now claims they have ownership of everything I post on their site. That includes my recent cruise pictures, random videos of me and my friends eating sushi, pictures of my wedding and honeymoon as well as content we’ve created for the something beautiful podcast.

They claim they have the right to it all – and can do with it as they please. Of course now that there’s a lot of hub-bub going on, they finally clarified their changes as of 5 p.m. today — 8 days after they quietly changed their terms of service.

So, until they change their terms of service back to what they were, I won’t be posting any new content of my own to Facebook.

It’s still easily accessible to to those who would like to view it.

I have an RSS feed setup so you can have everything that automatically posts to Facebook already sent to your favorite RSS reader (I like Google — especially with their 10 guiding principles—including #6, “You can make money without doing evil.” Or, in short, “Don’t be evil.”) or you can have it emailed to you.

Simply visit my blog and click My Life in RSS and you’ll be able to subscribe to the same information I post here on Facebook.

Sorry for the hassle, but hopefully if more and more people are made aware and more and more people take action, something will be done.

UPDATE: Here’s the license info from Ning.com…

Ning does not claim any ownership rights in Your Content. After posting Your Content, you continue to retain ownership of Your Content, and you continue to have the right to use and license Your Content in any way you choose. The Content that you upload to any Social Network needs to comply with the terms of this Agreement. At any point, you can take Your Content from Your Network and cancel your account and Ning does not retain any license rights except as provided below.

Make some noise for NoiseTrade.com

Just_Pete – your “indie music sweetheart (TM)” (yes I do believe that is his full name :-)) tipped me off to NoiseTrade.com today via Twitter.

The site appears to be a project of Derek Webb and allows users to download albums for free – by sharing emails with 3 friends – or by paying for the albums at whatever price you deem fit. I love it! I’ve always said/thought that “Christian music” should be open source – in fact I’m a pretty strong believer that everything “Christian” should be open source/creative commons – but that’s for another time and another discussion.

Either way – check it out!

From the site:

Some artists have good music they’re willing to give away in exchange for a little help. Some fans have a few bucks or a few friends who’d love to hear about good, free music.
Sounds like a match made in heaven.

FREE: Moby mix

Moby re-did a mix of his song Porcelain for a gig he had over the weekend and (for a limited time I’m sure) you can download the new mix on his myspace page. Just don’t tell the suits. They might get a little angry.
From Moby’s blog:

oh, before ‘degenerates’ on thursday i realized that i didn’t have any remixes of ‘porcelain’ that i wanted to play(although the extant remixes of ‘porcelain’ are good, they’re just not energetic enough for a big room set), so i quickly made a remix of ‘porcelain’ that worked well at ‘degenerates’.
i’ve posted it on myspace if you want to download it and play it when you dj.
hopefully the man won’t get upset with me for giving away music, but it’s
just a simple little remix.

In related news, I’ve been working on a new show/podcast for OrangeNoiseRadio. I’d love to have a mix of all sorts of stuff but it will probably start out with a mix of house/drum&bass/ambient music. The only downside is that for it to be a legal podcast, the music needs to be copywrite free or under a creative commons license. So it’s taking a little longer to find the music.
If you’ve got any great creative commons music you want to suggest – feel free to drop me a note or a link.

Found – great CC music

I love Creative Commons and the idea of people sharing their creative works.
And per my last post, I did some more digging and found that http://starfrosch.ch has a great collection of CC music to listen to, use and enjoy. Jazz, Rock, Ambient, Drum and Bass and more. Check it out…

What’s starfrosch? Starfrosch is a user driven music blog with high-traffic podcasts. At starfrosch, users submit Creative Commons music or videos. Yet a moderator team keeps care of the quality.
