Well there’s always a first for everything… And last night was one of those nights.
Our area was hit with what seemed like wave after wave after wave of storms last night with a number or reported tornados.
As the storms approached, the threat didn’t seem too bad, but after several of the severe storm cells passed to the north of us, one was reported roughly 20 miles south of us.
At the same time Laurie heard that circulation had been reported less than 10 miles east of us. With both reports we decided to take cover and head to our storm shelter… aka the hall bath tub.
We woke the boys from their sleep (roughly 2 hrs into it) and hunkered down in the tub with our radio and iPhones and a mess of blankets and pillows.
Needless to say, we don’t all fit to well in the tub! I was sitting with my back to the wall and my legs hanging over the side of the tub.
But luckily, what could have been a horrible, stressful and possibly deadly situation passed by after 30 minutes or so.
I was so proud of my boys. Seven months old and for the most part they just sat and enjoyed snuggling with us in the cramped conditions.
Finally after the last major storm cell passed, Laurie and I decided we needed to cool off (it was getting quite warm) and so we left our safety shelter for the wide open living room.
We waited till we felt certain the last major storm cell wouldn’t lead to another run to the shelter and then put the boys back to bed. From what we could tell… They drifted right back to sleep.
Yet, while we were spared, so many across the US were not this week. Storms and tornadoes have seemed especially rough this year and so many have lost loved ones and their entire homes.
And so in these moments we’re thankful that we were spared but we pause to remember those who are hurting due to their loss. May those who mourn be truly comforted.

And thanks for all the thoughts and prayers that came from our Twitter family last night. You are each a blessing to us!
