Ron Paul on U.S. Foreign Policy

Christian Conservative shares a video with Sen. Ron Paul, R-Texas on Bill Maher. Paul seems to say the U.S. should ignore the rest of the world’s problems and isolate ourselves from everyone else.

  1. “Paul seems to say the U.S. should ignore the rest of the world’s problems and isolate ourselves from everyone else.”

Not quite Jonathan, he says we should use diplomacy, trade, example, and other methods of bringing peace and prosperity to other countries — but not force of arms, which simoly unifies the invaded country against the occupier and his ideas.

This is not “isolationism,” it’s “military non-interventionism.” Paul is all for America spreading its great and good ideas to the world, which he believes will lead to wealth and peace. He’s just not for doing it with weapons.

  3. Buckwheat you may have a point. After watching it again and listening closer that may be the message Ron Paul is giving. Yet I still understand him to say, let’s just focus on ourselves and let them try and emulate us – lead by example. I have no problem with us leading by example but I think we also need to help our neighbors whenever we can in the mean time.

“Our foreign policy has unintended consequences…” Ron Paul said. “I have been very attracted and very supportive of a non-intervention foreign policy. Mind our own business and stay out of the internal affairs of other nations.”

Bill Maher said, “You have to either make them fear you or love you.”

“I think we should look for respect, that’s what we need and that’s what we don’t have,” Paul said. “They look down upon us because we impose on them. I have no problem with this theoretical position the neo-cons to spread the goodness of America, just not with force. We should spread it by setting a good example and getting our house in order and making sure civil liberties are defended here. Then when we have a free and prosperous economy and everyone is doing well and everyone is getting medical care everyone will want to emulate us. But there’s no way it will work if we pretend we have goodness that is so good… it hasn’t worked and force does not work, persuasion does.”
