California + The Galactic Empire

What do you get when you combine California with the Galactic Empire?

Sket One has one idea…

"This piece continues my style of mash ups taking everyday visuals and adding a slight twist of humor or thought to them, to think about how the items connect and intertwine trough pop culture. I wanted to pay homage to 2 things i love in my life Star Wars and California." – Sket One

While the flag print is now sold out, you can still order a print poster of the image for a limited time.

Trying out new Moves

Not sure if I’ve mentioned this before, but I really dig my Jawbone Up.

It’s discrete, it offers great insight at the end of the day and has a great sleep monitor & wake feature. I love that it’s waterproof and I can leave it on 24/7 without any issues. And I love that the battery lasts approximately 10 days. The only device I have that lasts that long these days is my Kindle.

However, the one downside is it doesn’t always track my steps correctly if I’m not walking with my hands free.

If I spend an hour walking through Costco pushing a shopping cart – it won’t track a thing. If I walk with my hands in my pocket, it won’t track a thing. If I walk around the neighborhood holding my boys’ hands – it won’t track much of anything.

So with that in mind (and that I’m always looking for the next big thing) I’m giving Moves a try.

I’ve always been leery of pedometers on my phone simply because of how they tend to hurt your battery life. But Moves developers say in general the app won’t affect your battery life – so we’ll see.

Looking forward to comparing it with my Jawbone and see how the two match/don’t match up at the end of the day.

And of course this also means either no tracking at night or I have to keep my phone closer to my side when I walk in the door #facepalm.

I feel like the early days of smart phones when I had a dream list and no one could meet it all.

So if you’re a developer – here’s my current body tracking wish list:

  • Tracks heart rate
  • Tracks steps/movement
  • Doesn’t without relying on my arm movement
  • Wearable 24/7
  • Waterproof
  • Durable
  • Syncs with iOS/Android
  • Includes desktop integration for more detailed reporting
  • Long battery life
  • Syncs with other apps like MyFitness Pal to give you a better picture of calorie intake/burned

What would you add? Have you found a device you love that fits your dream list?

Defense Distributed claims working 3D printed handgun

What does it say about handguns in our country when the ability to print your own handgun using a 3D printer isn’t a game changer?

And although this is a fascinating provocation, it is not (yet) a game-changer, especially in America where traditional guns (capable of firing thousands of rounds without melting down) are cheap and easy to get. You can even "3D print" a gun by asking different CNC shops to cut and overnight you all the parts to make up a working gun, breaking the job down into small pieces that are unlikely to arouse suspicion.

Found: Cards Against Humanity – A free card game for horrible people

Unlike most of the party games you’ve played before, Cards Against Humanity is as despicable and awkward as you and your friends.

The game is simple. Each round, one player asks a question from a Black Card, and everyone else answers with their funniest White Card.

Aaron Wood says its a lot like Apples to Apples.

Love that it’s available as a free download via Creative Commons or you can purchase the game pre-packaged for $25.
