Have I mentioned that I love the ideas behind The Idea Camp? It’s such a great un-conference, open and FREE (aka Pay What You Will) concept!
The event is based entirely around conversations with the “speakers” via interviews, Twitter and txt messaged questions, rather than a 45-minute lecture by some “expert” in his field.
Even the workshops are based around conversations between the participants in hopes to facilitate future conversations, partnerships and even greater things to come in the future.
From The Idea Camp website ::
The Idea Camp is a FREE, open source hybrid conference designed to help people move from ideation to implementation.
We are a gathering of some of the most innovative and creative leaders from around the country (this means YOU!) to share ideas, intentionally network, and move collaboratively into idea-making. Whether your passion is church leadership, non-profit work, social entrepreneurialism, politics, technology, media, creativity, culture making, church planting, spiritual formation, compassionate justice, etc., this is the conference for YOU!
“It’s not so much about a celebrity coming to speak – it’s really about people connecting with one another. We believe there’s greater wisdom in the crowds than any one speaker can provide.” – Charles Lee

They’ve already held two events and have another un-conference coming up in D.C. at the end of the month (Aug. 28-29th), focused on compassion and justice issues.
While I would jump on any opportunity to go to the D.C. event, I know its not feasible right now for myself – and probably many others.
So that’s why I’m working with several other folks to organize a Dallas area watch party.
The Idea Camp will be streamed live on the Internet (just like the previous one was) and we’re hoping we can have a great group come together in Dallas to watch the National event and then offer break-out sessions of our own to focus on local issues and opportunities to get involved in what God is doing — right here in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
We’re still working to nail down a location (hint, hint to anyone with connections). We ideally need a large room with a projector and strong Internet connection for sure. After that we can work on any additional amenities.
And just like the D.C. event we won’t be charging for this event (although we’ll gladly invite folks to bring snacks and drinks for everyone if they’d like) but I believe we’ll all walk away with a wealth of information and new connections.
The event will take place August 28 from noon to 7:30 p.m. and August 29 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
So if you’re interested in attending and/or participating, let me know so we can plan accordingly. Either comment here, email me or RSVP on our Facebook event page.
Or if you’re out of the Dallas area – you can host your own Idea Camp watch party at your house or your favorite congregating place as well.
