Laundry Love Project :: additional notes

Next Laundry Love Project - July 25th

A few additional notes…

After our “surprise” visit to the Glenn Heights Wash and Dry last month, we requested permission from the owner in order to post flyers and such letting people know we would be offering free laundry on the last Saturday of the month.

While we weren’t able to talk with the owner directly, we were told she wasn’t interested via another employee. It was frustrating, but we pushed ahead and decided to go wash our own laundry and then simply offer free laundry for those around us.

I’ll admit that it was somewhat frustrating, but while we were there Saturday night, the same employee of the laundromat who had been our go-between with the owner, showed up.

He spoke with several of the customers there and witnessed first hand what we were doing. He was very appreciative and asked for my phone number again saying he would talk to the owner for us again. I thanked him and said we’d be back either way — but we’d like their permission to post a sign in advance. He laughed and told us to keep it up.

Sure enough, the owner called earlier this week and we had a brief chat about the project. She’s still apprehensive but we’re praying and hoping she’ll bless what we’re doing. I gave her our website link as well and hopefully it will help her understand what we’re wanting to do.

DCCCD AARI

As I mentioned earlier this week, the DCCCD African American Read-In donated a number of canvas bags and t-shirts for us to give to the kids this month. When asked how many we could use, I told them we would eventually use all they gave us but that last month we only had four kids during the two or three hours we were there. They gave us 12 bags — just in case. Turns out that was exactly the number we needed.

Funny how those things happen :-).

It was a nice way to offer something tangible to the kids and I think the parents appreciated that just as much.

Making plans for Dallas

On July 11th, the JustOne Dallas Hub will be meeting to plan one or two more Laundry Love Projects in the Dallas area. Looking forward to meeting with this group again and getting another LLP off the ground. If you’re interested in taking part in the planning, discussion and/or the actual Dallas Laundry Love Project, let us know.
