Huckabee to participate in PBS debate

Media Advisory: Gov. Mike Huckabee to Attend PBS’ Debate in Baltimore, MD on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007

September 20, 2007

Little Rock, AR – Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee will participate in the “All-American Presidential Forum” hosted by PBS between journalists and Republican presidential candidates, it was announced today.
The primetime forum, to be moderated by Tavis Smiley, host of TAVIS SMILEY, PBS’ late-night talk show, will be held Thursday, Sept. 27, at 9 p.m. EST, at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland .
“I’m really looking forward to participating in the debate in Baltimore . I’ve always been willing to debate the issues that are important to the people of America – not only critical topics involving the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, but our domestic issues as well,” said Huckabee, who has a long history of addressing the needs of the African American community.

The All-American Presidential Forum will “allow me to share my record and perspective on issues confronting all Americans, as well as my vision for America ‘s future. I look forward to discussing these compelling issues as well as strengthening my relationship with members of the African American Community,” said Huckabee. Huckabee’s participation in the PBS debate was confirmed on August 2.
In addition to his PBS program, Smiley also hosts the “Tavis Smiley Show from PRI,” a two-hour news and opinion radio program featuring commentary and interviews. He is the author/editor of 11 books including the New York Times best-sellers Covenant with Black America and What I Know for Sure: My Story of Growing up in America .
Immediate public feedback on the performance of the candidates will be conducted by noted pollster Frank Luntz, who will also appear on “Tavis Smiley” on PBS the following evening to discuss his findings.
Video of the forum will be archived for download and viewing on the Web site (pbs.org/tavissmiley). Visitors will be able to submit their own questions for the candidates, read commentary and share their own opinions. (Check local broadcast listings for additional details.)

I really applaud Huckabee’s willingness to participate in all the debates he can/does. I think it really gets him out there and helps solidify his views on issues while other candidates seem to shy away from them, fearing they’ll screw up or something to ruin their campaign.
