{"id":751,"date":"2006-03-06T09:14:00","date_gmt":"2006-03-06T15:14:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.casadeblundell.com\/jonathan\/?p=751"},"modified":"2006-03-06T09:14:00","modified_gmt":"2006-03-06T15:14:00","slug":"personality-influences","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/casadeblundell.com\/jonathan\/personality-influences\/","title":{"rendered":"Personality influences"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A couple weeks back <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\">NPR&#8217;s<\/A> All Things Considered had an interesting story on a documentary about a man with amnesia.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0436864\/\">Unknown White Male<\/A> tells the story of the man dealing with his lost memory.<br \/>\nThe premise of the story is that a man has lost all his memory and can&#8217;t recollect any thing about himself, including his personality.<br \/>\nThe documentary tells his story.<br \/>\nBut the NPR reviewer said the movie begs the question, &#8220;Do we learn our personality or is it given at birth and ingrained for life?&#8221;<br \/>\nIn other words, how much of our surroundings and the people we&#8217;re with impact our personality.<br \/>\nAccording to the report, the man who&#8217;s lost his memory is just a shell of his former self.<br \/>\nHe&#8217;s a different man to all his old friends and family.<br \/>\nCan he regain his personality, or will he become an entirely new man as he re-learns his life, family, friends and surroundings?<br \/>\nI constantly see myself doing things that my father does. Possibly, that could be genetic, but it could also be all the time I&#8217;ve spent with him.<br \/>\nI see myself doing things my friends do as well.
