{"id":5922,"date":"2010-07-01T07:00:28","date_gmt":"2010-07-01T12:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.casadeblundell.com\/jonathan\/?p=5922"},"modified":"2010-07-01T13:51:31","modified_gmt":"2010-07-01T18:51:31","slug":"what-priorities-would-your-administration-have","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/casadeblundell.com\/jonathan\/what-priorities-would-your-administration-have\/","title":{"rendered":"What priorities would your administration have?"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_5923\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5923\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.casadeblundell.com\/jonathan\/wp-content\/uploads\/obama-bono.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.casadeblundell.com\/jonathan\/wp-content\/uploads\/obama-bono-500x333.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"Obama and Bono\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" class=\"size-large wp-image-5923\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5923\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Obama and Bono discuss development policy in the Oval Office, April 30, 2010. | Official White House photo.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I found myself watching <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B000JYW5B4?ie=UTF8&#038;tag=malesurvival&#038;linkCode=as2&#038;camp=1789&#038;creative=390957&#038;creativeASIN=B000JYW5B4\">Dave<\/a>, with Kevin Kline and Sigourney Weaver last night.<\/p>\n<p>As a quick recap (or spoiler)&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The President has a stroke and falls into a coma.<\/li>\n<li>Kline plays a presidential impersonator and is brought in to &#8220;fill in&#8221; for the president. <\/li>\n<li>Eventually, the first lady (Weaver) figures out there&#8217;s a cover-up involving Kline (she doesn&#8217;t know her husband, The President is still in a coma) and both Kline and Weaver decide to jettison the White House in hopes for an easier life.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>But before the leave town they both reflect what they love about the office &#8212; helping those in need.<\/p>\n<p>Weaver then asks Kline, &#8220;What would you do if you were still there?&#8221;<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nHe responds, &#8220;A lot of things.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s then that they decide to return to the White House in hopes of creating a better future.<\/p>\n<p>So I&#8217;m curious&#8230; <\/p>\n<h3>What would you do if you were sitting in the Oval Office today?<\/h3>\n<p>Given our current situations around the world &#8212; oil spill in the gulf, war in Iraq and Afghanistan, Iran, financial insecurity, health care, homelessness, extreme poverty around the world, immigration, etc. etc&#8230;<\/p>\n<h3>What priorities would your administration have?<\/h3>\n<p>And let&#8217;s keep in mind, you really only have 18 months to accomplish it. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p>From West Wing Season 7 &#8211; The Ticket:<br \/>\n\t<em>(You know I can&#8217;t talk about the presidency without bringing in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B000HC2LI0?ie=UTF8&#038;tag=malesurvival&#038;linkCode=as2&#038;camp=1789&#038;creative=390957&#038;creativeASIN=B000HC2LI0\">West Wing<\/a> &#8212; right?)<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Matt_Santos\">Matt Santos<\/a> (Presidential Candidate): I don&#8217;t want to wait until transition. I want a plan in place. I want to spend transition hiring a staff that can execute it and on day one I want to get to work, not dickering around for the first three months. You want something to worry about, worry about that.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Leo_McGarry\">Leo McGarry<\/a> (Vice-Presidential Candidate): Okay. Well, let&#8217;s start by reframing the question. Forget about a four-year term. The Presidency is 18 months. That&#8217;s your window. After that, there&#8217;s midterms. No one on the Hill&#8217;s got time to do business with you. They&#8217;re too busy getting reelected. Then, suddenly, you&#8217;re running again.<\/p>\n<p>Santos: So, I&#8217;m basically throwing out everything but my first five pages?<\/p>\n<p>McGarry: In the garbage.
