{"id":4313,"date":"2009-01-30T23:47:29","date_gmt":"2009-01-31T05:47:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.casadeblundell.com\/jonathan\/?p=4313"},"modified":"2013-06-11T07:46:10","modified_gmt":"2013-06-11T13:46:10","slug":"in-my-neighborhood","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/casadeblundell.com\/jonathan\/in-my-neighborhood\/","title":{"rendered":"In my neighborhood"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/jdblundell\/2421786195\/\" class=\"tt-flickr tt-flickr-Medium\" title=\"long exposures\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3080\/2421786195_edc8562e8f.jpg\" alt=\"long exposures\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a> <\/p>\n<p>I saw this on a <span class=\"removed_link\" title=\"http:\/\/www.voxveniae.com\/neighborhoods\">random church website<\/span> describing their community groups&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Hopefully over the course of the year, our neighborhoods will be blessed by our coming together.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Could we say this about our own individual community groups\/families?<\/p>\n<p>Could we make that our goal this year?<\/p>\n<p>Daniel&#8217;s Den, Waxahachie Cares, Austin Street, Goodwill etc. etc. etc. are ALL great causes. And I love the stories I hear about folks getting involved and wanting to get involved with each of them. <\/p>\n<p>But what about YOUR neighborhood? Will it be blessed by your family and your group coming together this year? How will your group &#8211; no matter what size it may be &#8211; how will it bless your neighborhood?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Some ideas ::<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Host a BBQ for your neighbors<\/li>\n<li>Host a party for the big game and invite your neighbors<\/li>\n<li>Deliver cookies or small bags of candies to your neighbors<\/li>\n<li>Plant a community garden<\/li>\n<li>Work to keep your house and landscaping in top notch condition and help encourage others to do the same &#8212; offer to help when they may not be able<\/li>\n<li>Organize a neighborhood watch<\/li>\n<li>Stock your freezer with heat and serve lasagnas or soups for when a neighbor gets sick or out of work<\/li>\n<li>Invite neighbors over for coffee or tea or whatever<\/li>\n<li>Get involved in the HOA &#8211; be a voice for positive change &#8211; not complaining about the wrongs others are doing<\/li>\n<li>Walk the neighbor&#8217;s dogs<\/li>\n<li>Pick up the mail for a neighbor going on vacation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I think the key to remember, no matter what it is &#8211; don&#8217;t do it because you have an agenda. If they ask why you&#8217;re doing it, just say &#8220;I want to be a better neighbor.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>What other ideas do you have?<\/p>\n<p>What do you wish your neighbor would do for you? Now go and do likewise.<\/p>\n<p>And while you&#8217;re at it &#8211; say a prayer for me and our group.
