{"id":4040,"date":"2008-10-06T18:51:05","date_gmt":"2008-10-07T00:51:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.casadeblundell.com\/jonathan\/?p=4040"},"modified":"2008-10-06T18:56:00","modified_gmt":"2008-10-07T00:56:00","slug":"for-young-men-only-a-guys-guide-to-the-alien-gender","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/casadeblundell.com\/jonathan\/for-young-men-only-a-guys-guide-to-the-alien-gender\/","title":{"rendered":"For Young Men Only &#8211; a guy&#8217;s guide to the alien gender"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well I just finished reading &#8220;For Young Men Only &#8211; a guy&#8217;s guide to the alien gender.&#8221; Probably not something I would have picked up and read for myself (being 29 years of age) but a surprisingly good read none the less.<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"http:\/\/rcm.amazon.com\/e\/cm?t=malesurvival&#038;o=1&#038;p=8&#038;l=as1&#038;asins=160142020X&#038;fc1=000000&#038;IS2=1&#038;lt1=_blank&#038;m=amazon&#038;lc1=0000FF&#038;bc1=000000&#038;bg1=FFFFFF&#038;f=ifr\" style=\"width:120px;height:240px;\" scrolling=\"no\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" frameborder=\"0\" align=\"right\"><\/iframe>The authors, Jeff Feildhahn and Eric Rice do a great job in covering many of the boyhood (and often manhood) misconceptions of &#8220;the alien gender.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>While I enjoyed reading both <a type=\"amzn\" asin=\"1590525728\">For Men Only<\/a> and <a type=\"amzn\" asin=\"1590523172\">For Women Only<\/a>, I honestly expected this book (which is naturally geared more towards high schoolers &#8212; and the fourth in the &#8220;<a type=\"amzn\" search=\"Shaunti Feldhahn\">Only<\/a>&#8221; series) to be either way too informative or on the cheesy side of entertaining &#8211; but the book does a great job of avoiding both extremes. Throughout the book, both Eric and Jeff share spot-on illustrations from their own lives and interjected relevant ideas and situations for high-schoolers that kept me interested and believing what they had to tell me.<\/p>\n<p>However, don&#8217;t expect this book to be a &#8220;how-to&#8221; or DIY type of dating book. Like the other books in the series, it&#8217;s really about debunking the common misconceptions guys (including myself) have about that &#8220;mysterious other sex.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>Including ::<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Girls only go for the good looking Abercrombie guys<\/li>\n<li>Girls only like bad boys<\/li>\n<li>Girls never make sense (still not sure this is really a misconception ;-))<\/li>\n<li>Girls go from &#8220;love&#8221; to &#8220;get lost&#8221; in seconds flat<\/li>\n<li>and others&#8230;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Perhaps if my friends and I had this book many moons ago, we would have had a completely different understanding of young women and written a lot less goofy stories, poems and songs about misunderstanding them &#8212; along with saving us a lot of heartache along the way.<\/p>\n<p>If nothing else, the book will be a great resource to start a discussion between you and the young men in your life.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Well I just finished reading &#8220;For Young Men Only &#8211; a guy&#8217;s guide to the alien gender.&#8221; Probably not something I would have picked up and read for myself (being 29 years of age) but a surprisingly good read none the less.
