{"id":3610,"date":"2008-04-04T11:05:57","date_gmt":"2008-04-04T17:05:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.casadeblundell.com\/jonathan\/?p=3610"},"modified":"2008-04-04T11:05:57","modified_gmt":"2008-04-04T17:05:57","slug":"label-your-thumb-drives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/casadeblundell.com\/jonathan\/label-your-thumb-drives\/","title":{"rendered":"Label your Thumb Drives"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you&#8217;re prone to losing your Thumb Drives &#8211; or just afraid it might happen some day, <a href=\"http:\/\/lifehacker.com\/375320\/label-a-flash-drive-with-your-name-and-number\">Lifehacker<\/a> has a great tip\/hack to label your drive with your name, phone number or other information.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the basics:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I created a next text file in Notepad, typed the word:<\/p>\n<p>[autorun]<\/p>\n<p>And saved it to the root directory\u00e2\u20ac\u201dthe &#8220;main&#8221; area of your drive, not in a folder\u00e2\u20ac\u201das autorun.inf.<\/p>\n<p>I chose a big yellow smiley face for my icon but any brightly colored, unusual icon will be easily noticed. I copied the icon to the root directory of my thumb drive and renamed it myicon.ico.<\/p>\n<p>Then I opened my autorun.inf file and added this text:<\/p>\n<p>icon = .\\myicon.ico<br \/>\nlabel=My Name (mobile xxx-xxx-xxxx)<\/p>\n<p>(Of course, you will substitute your name and your mobile number for the above text.) I saved the file and marked it &#8220;read only&#8221; and hid it (just as an added sense of security\u00e2\u20ac\u201da lot of people have not learned how to tweak their &#8220;Show hidden folders&#8221; settings and, thus, will not be tempted to delete or<br \/>\nedit the file.)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I gave this a try and it works like a charm. If you recall, I wrote about some great software ihoundsoftware.com <a href=\"http:\/\/www.casadeblundell.com\/jonathan\/?p=3231\">back in Dec<\/a>. and this works right alongside the software.
