I didn’t get to see the GOP debate but I’ve read and seen some good things about Mike Huckabee<\/a>.
\nChris sent me a text shortly after it was all over and asked if Huckabee was as cool as he seemed.
\nI assured him (for what it’s worth) I was a huge fan.<\/p>\n

Watching the post coverage there were some critics of Huckabee on Anderson Cooper’s wrap-up or thought he was “out there” because he wanted to abolish the IRS. They seemed to think this was just a dumb idea and seemed to think that Huckabee just wants to get rid of the IRS and has no plans to replace it – apparently they missed his comments about the FairTax<\/a> and their completely ignorant on the topic. Glad these analysts get paid the big bucks instead of me.<\/p>\n

ABC’s Nightline gave a pretty good run down from what I could tell. But the only clips of Huckabee focused on his one-liner jokes rather than any of his substantive comments. It will be interesting to see how NPR and others cover the debate.<\/p>\n

Bull Dog Pundit of Ankle Biting Pundits<\/span>: Mike Huckabee continues to impress, and comes off as the most genuine guy up there. He\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s obviously a darling of social conservatives (for good reason) but doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t come close to being the MSM stereotype of a \u00e2\u20ac\u0153wacky preachy religious guy\u00e2\u20ac\u009d. His answer on why it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s impossible to understand the Bible was pure genius. On substance he\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a great salesman for the Fair Tax. I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m not quite sure I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m on board with it, but it does intrigue me, in large part because something about Huckabee makes me trust him and the decisions he makes. <\/p>\n

He also gave a good answer to whether he would accept support from the Log Cabin Republicans (\u00e2\u20ac\u009dI\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll accept anyone\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s support, but I won\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t change my views just to get it. We can disagree on things but still support each other on others\u00e2\u20ac\u009d).<\/p>\n

I also get another vibe from Huckabee. I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m not a very religious guy, and the subject usually bores me, and I can\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t stand people who constantly talk about it, because it just turns me off. But I think Huckabee is the kind of guy who you could sit down and talk to about religion that would get you to start thinking positively about religion and get yhou to make it a bigger part of your life, not by bashing you over the head with it, but just getting you to think about its role in your life. Not that I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m at all interested in that (although I should be), I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m just saying I could see him being that kind of guy.<\/p>\n
