I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve been reading lots of books lately. I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m not sure why, maybe its the loss of my t.v. satellite or just an odd desire to make up for all the books I didn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t read as a kid.
\nOver the past couple weeks I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve finished, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Jesus CEO,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d \u00e2\u20ac\u0153This Present Darkness,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Prince Caspian.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d
\nI\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve been intrigued by all of them, but I was struck this week by \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Prince Caspian,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d part of C.S. Lewis\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 epic Chronicles of Narnia.
\nI\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve been trying to catch up on the books slowly this year before the \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Lion, Witch and Wardrobe\u00e2\u20ac\u009d comes to the big screen later this year.
\nAs you may remember, the story is based on four children who find a secret passage to the secret world of Narnia.
\nThey become high kings and queens of the land and are led by Aslan the Lion.
\nIn this fourth book in the series, the children find themselves swept back to Narnia, called by an ancient horn that was passed from generation to generation to be used in the upmost of emergencies.
\nAs the children wander the land, the youngest child, Lucy swears she sees Aslan looking down upon them, across a great river. The other three children scoff at her and carry on their way, ignoring her pleas to turn and head towards Aslan.
\nLater that evening, they realize in fact they had continued the wrong way and should have followed Lucy\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s advice — regardless of her seeing Aslan or not.
\nThat night Lucy spots Aslan again and he questions her not following him earlier in the day.
\n\u00e2\u20ac\u0153But no one else would come,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Lucy said. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I couldn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t travel alone.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d
\nAslan continues to look upon her as her guilt overcomes her. She knows the answer Aslan is looking for.
\n\u00e2\u20ac\u0153I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m sorry,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d she continues. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I should have followed you no matter what anyone else does or did. It doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t matter if they can see you or not. I could and I didn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t follow you.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d
\nHow true is that to life?
\nHow often do we know the right direction and right way to head in life and yet we continue on our same dead-end path, because we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re afraid no one else will follow us.
\nI remember singing often as a child, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I have decided to follow Jesus… no turning back, no turning back. Though none go with me, still I will follow…\u00e2\u20ac\u009d
