There’s a story in today’s Waxahachie Daily Light<\/A> that reminds me of a great quote from the Jim Carrey<\/b> movie, Liar Liar<\/A><\/em>. <\/p>\n

Anyone who has driven through Red Oak on Interstate 35 in the past few months has probably noticed increased police patrol in the stretch from the Bear Creek Road exit to the U.S. Highway 77 overpass \u00e2\u20ac\u201d a five-mile construction zone that is part of the Red Oak Police Department\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s jurisdiction.
\nThe increased patrol is part of the department\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s traffic division formed by traffic enforcement, accident investigation and supplement patrol.
\n\u00e2\u20ac\u0153The reason I wanted to do the traffic division is so that we can have constant visibility for public safety,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said Red Oak Police Chief Red Fullerton. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The plan is that with constant visibility, people will know we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re going to be out there and hopefully will decrease their speed.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d
\nIn 2005, a television news station in Dallas named the portion of I-35 through Red Oak the most dangerous stretch of interstate in North Texas.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I received a couple calls regarding the increased police presence on I-35 when I worked at the paper and all I could think of was, Carrey’s line, after he kept having to bail one of his clients out of jail… “Well quit breaking the law!”
\nI admit I’ve received my fair share of speeding tickets. I’ve been ticketed for seven miles and hour over and 19 miles an hour over. But the thing is – regardless, one mile an hour over is breaking the law.
\nWhy do we want to throw a fuss at the police or other authority when they catch us and\/or punish us for breaking a posted law?
