I hope to have a podcast up by this evening but I was running into some problems yesterday with my software. And for some reason I have a Christmas song stuck in my head today (at least that&#8217;s better than the Father Abraham I had stuck in my head yesterday &#8212; thanks to <b>Scott<\/b>).<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s not a traditional song by any means. It&#8217;s from the Trans Siberian Orchestra. But as I read over the lyrics again I thought it was very fitting for the direction I believe our church is heading&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Old City Bar&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In an old city bar<br \/>\nThat is never too far<br \/>\nFrom the places that gather<br \/>\nThe dreams that have been <\/p>\n<p>In the safety of night<br \/>\nWith its old neon light<br \/>\nIt beckons to strangers<br \/>\nAnd they always come in <\/p>\n<p>And the snow it was falling<br \/>\nThe neon was calling<br \/>\nThe music was low<br \/>\nAnd the night<br \/>\nChristmas Eve <\/p>\n<p>And here was the danger<br \/>\nThat even with strangers<br \/>\nInside of this night<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s easier to believe <\/p>\n<p>Then the door opened wide<br \/>\nAnd a child came inside<br \/>\nThat no one in the bar<br \/>\nHad seen there before <\/p>\n<p>And he asked did we know<br \/>\nThat outside in the snow<br \/>\nThat someone was lost<br \/>\nStanding outside our door <\/p>\n<p>Then the bartender gazed<br \/>\nThrough the smoke and the haze<br \/>\nThrough the window and ice<br \/>\nTo a corner streetlight <\/p>\n<p>Where standing alone<br \/>\nBy a broken pay phone<br \/>\nWas a girl the child said<br \/>\nCould no longer get home <\/p>\n<p>And the snow it was falling<br \/>\nThe neon was calling<br \/>\nThe bartender turned<br \/>\nAnd said, not that I care<br \/>\nBut how would you know this?<br \/>\nThe child said I&#8217;ve noticed<br \/>\nIf one could be home<br \/>\nThey&#8217;d be all ready there <\/p>\n<p>Then the bartender came out from behind the bar<br \/>\nAnd in all of his life he was never that far<br \/>\nAnd he did something else that he thought no one saw<br \/>\nWhen he took all the cash from the register draw <\/p>\n<p>Then he followed the child to the girl cross the street<br \/>\nAnd we watched from the bar as they started to speak<br \/>\nThen he called for a cab and he said J.F.K.<br \/>\nPut the girl in the cab and the cab drove away<br \/>\nAnd we saw in his hand<br \/>\nThat the cash was all gone<br \/>\nFrom the light that she had wished upon <\/p>\n<p>If you want to arrange it<br \/>\nThis world you can change it<br \/>\nIf we could somehow make this<br \/>\nChristmas thing last <\/p>\n<p>By helping a neighbor<br \/>\nOr even a stranger<br \/>\nAnd to know who needs help<br \/>\nYou need only just ask <\/p>\n<p>Then he looked for the child<br \/>\nBut the child wasn&#8217;t there<br \/>\nJust the wind and the snow<br \/>\nWaltzing dreams through the air <\/p>\n<p>So he walked back inside<br \/>\nSomehow different I think<br \/>\nFor the rest of the night<br \/>\nNo one paid for a drink <\/p>\n<p>And the cynics will say<br \/>\nThat some neighborhood kid<br \/>\nWandered in on some bums<br \/>\nIn the world where they hid <\/p>\n<p>But they weren&#8217;t there<br \/>\nSo they couldn&#8217;t see<br \/>\nBy an old neon star<br \/>\nOn that night, Christmas Eve <\/p>\n<p>When the snow it was falling<br \/>\nThe neon was calling<br \/>\nAnd in case you should wonder<br \/>\nIn case you should care <\/p>\n<p>Why we&#8217;re on our own<br \/>\nNever went home<br \/>\nOn that night of all nights<br \/>\nWe were already there <\/p>\n<p>THEN ALL AT ONCE INSIDE THAT NIGHT<br \/>\nHE SAW IT ALL SO CLEAR<br \/>\nTHE ANSWER THAT HE SOUGHT SO LONG<br \/>\nHAD ALWAYS BEEN SO NEAR <\/p>\n<p>IT&#8217;S EVERY GIFT THAT SOMEONE GIVES<br \/>\nEXPECTING NOTHING BACK<br \/>\nIT&#8217;S EVERY KINDNESS THAT WE DO<br \/>\nEACH SIMPLE LITTLE ACT<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;<br \/>\n<em>I looked for someone to stand up for me against all this, to repair the defenses of the city, to take a stand for me and stand in the gap to protect this land so I wouldn&#8217;t have to destroy it. I couldn&#8217;t find anyone. Not one. &#8211; Ezekiel 22:30<\/em><\/p>\n<p>What are you doing to change the world around you?
