LifeWay Research<\/A> conducted a survey among people age 18 to 34 that discovered a major factor causing young adults to leave the church is the church\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s inability to minister to them in their transition stage.
\nAmong Young Adults:<\/p>\n

  • 73% of churchgoers<\/b> & 47% of non-churchgoers<\/b> indicated that community with other young people is extremely important<\/B> in their lives.\n
  • 71% of churchgoers<\/b> said they want to participate in small-group meetings<\/B> to discuss life application of Scripture.\n
  • 68% of churchgoers<\/b> & 45% of non-churchgoers<\/b> said that in small group settings they can find \u00e2\u20ac\u0153advice from individuals with similar experiences<\/b>.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\n
  • 66% of churchgoers<\/b> & 47% of non-churchgoers<\/b> agree that meeting the needs of others is also an essential<\/B> element to this generation.\n

    Jim Johnston of LifeWay Christian Resources identifies four needs among young adults:
    \n1. Relationship
    \n2. Biblical Community
    \n3. Social Action
    \n4. Genuine Church<\/p>\n

    Here are two responses from those surveyed:
    \n“Young adults are in the middle \u00e2\u20ac\u201c not married, not old enough, not in high school; [we’re] in this ‘ugh’ stage,” said one survey respondent in the latest LifeWay Research report.<\/p>\n

    “After graduation, they (the church) give you a pat on the back and say, ‘when you start a family, we’ll be here for you,'” said another respondent.<\/p>\n

    \n\u00e2\u20ac\u0153The church\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s responsibility is to reach every generation with the love of Jesus Christ,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d stated Jim Johnston, director of young adult ministry at LifeWay Christian Resources in Nashville, in the report. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153It just so happens that this generation\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s biggest need is relationship. The church ought to be the author and purveyor of the best, deepest, most loving friendships around.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n

    \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The lost and the saved in this age group are looking for just what the church can provide in Biblical community,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said Johnston. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153They want absolute truth but they embrace the struggle of finding it themselves. They don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t want it to be spoon-fed to them.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n

    “Young adults gravitate to churches that are making an impact,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Johnston noted. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153This age group is embracing service, social action and missions. They will embrace the church with a cause as well.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n

    “They (young adults) want to embrace church, but only the genuine, earth-shaking, Christ-powered New Testament church. For some churches, that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s going to mean changing methodology \u00e2\u20ac\u201c but not the message of the Bible.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/B><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
