{"id":1366,"date":"2006-08-01T10:28:00","date_gmt":"2006-08-01T16:28:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.casadeblundell.com\/jonathan\/?p=1366"},"modified":"2006-08-01T10:28:00","modified_gmt":"2006-08-01T16:28:00","slug":"subhearings-on-immigration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/casadeblundell.com\/jonathan\/subhearings-on-immigration\/","title":{"rendered":"Subhearings on Immigration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kera.org\">KERA<\/A> has posted a story on last nights immigration sub hearing in Plano.<br \/>\nAn immigration in Plano seems somewhat out of place, but I guess it works for a state with the largest border with Mexico.<br \/>\nAccording to several <a href=\"http:\/\/capitolannex.com\/2006\/08\/01\/house-sub-committee-hearings-in-plano\/\">bloggers<\/A>, &#8220;Sam Johnson, R-Plano, made himself the star of the show, pointing out how more moderate proposals to deal with illegal immigration are unacceptable to him and others on the far-right.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Democratic State Representative Roberto Alonzo, who observed the hearing, called it a sham, saying House and Senate members have already debated the issues.<br \/>\nState Representative Roberto Alonzo: The only reason they\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re doing the hearings is to create anti immigrant sentiment right before the elections.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>At one point the crowd was a bit unruly and Johnson said he wouldn&#8217;t allow it.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>That prompted Mr. Johnson \u00e2\u20ac\u201c who is up for re-election and whose Democratic opponent, Dan Dodd, was in the audience \u00e2\u20ac\u201c to tell the gathering: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Any emotion such as clapping is not allowed in the House.
