97 hours without Twitter?

This morning I was checking in on Twitter and realized I’ve posted 19,998 Tweets since I joined Twitter in October 2007.

I posed the question… does this make me an oversharer?

19,999th tweet
19,999th tweet

To which my brother-in-law posed the response… go on a tweet holiday and use the 20,000 to announce the birth! Unless you’ve already passed it by now!

Twitter challenge
Twitter challenge

Sounds like a reasonable enough challenge… 97 hours or so without Twitter (well at least without posting to my main Twitter account @jdblundell :-))

So we’ll see if I can do it.

Granted my biggest worry is the various online accounts that automatically post to Twitter for me (probably one of the reasons I’ve reached 19,999 tweets). I think I’ve disabled all the connections, but we’ll see.

Thankfully, Twitter’s started using OAauth, so hopefully I’ve disconnected all these services (check https://twitter.com/settings/connections) to see what sites/applications have rights to your Twitter account).

So there you have it… no Twitter for 97 hours… but I’m betting that may lead to more blog posts, video updates and posts to Facebook.

And for those of you who don’t have Twitter… you can still get the big announcement via a SMS text message.

Simply send a text with the following message to 40404:

follow jdblundell

You’ll likely get a response asking for a username. Simply pick a random username, send it as a reply to the same account and you’ll get the big announcement as a text message on your phone.

And in case you didn’t know…

I also tweet from @sbpodcast @welivesimply @orangenoise @stpetersbrew @blundybabies @travisranch

Yeah, I’m probably an oversharer.

G1 vs iPhone 3G: Comparing video

As I continue using my “new” iPhone, I thought it would be interesting to compare the video quality of my mobile phones… the G1 I used up until a week or so ago and the iPhone 3G I’ve been using since.

Granted, these aren’t the phones you’ll be buying in the stores anymore but if you’re looking for a re-furbished/used phone on ebay or elsewhere, this might help you make your decision. Last check showed an unlocked G1 for $75 on ebay or an 8GB iPhone 3G for $160.

These videos were recorded on the phones (I had to download a camcorder app for the iPhone) and uploaded straight to the web.

The video quality is comparable but the iPhone has the weird screen ratio. That may bother some – may not bother others.

Like my still photography, I still like having a dedicated device for video (at least until I get a phone with better video quality) but appreciate having video on my phone for spur of the moment things.

Do you use video on your phone or do you use a video specific device like the Flip UltraHD Cam?

The Gospel of Welcome (video)

I had the opportunity to return to encounter yesterday to fill in for Brian as he attended a family event.

It’s always an honor to be asked to speak to any group and yesterday was no exception.

My thoughts were broadcast on Ustream… and I’ve taken the video and posted my portion of it on Vimeo.

Would love your feedback and thoughts if you get a chance.

Also, I played around with the video on my iPhone Friday before and after our doctor appointment.

In case you missed it – we were given some awesome news Friday… so watch the videos to see what it was 😉

From Austin to Kenya: JC music video

My friends Russell and Elora recently returned from a trip to Nairobi with the students from Reagan High in Austin.

While on the trip one of the American students, Ni-D (Nijalon), connected with one of the Kenyan students, Daniel, while the two “battled it” out on the soccer field.

A brotherhood was formed, a song was written, recorded there in Kenya and then a video was shot in the largest slum area in the world, Kibera, Kenya, during the last few days of the trip. The video was later edited back in the States.

I love the collaboration between not only the two cultures but also everyone involved in the process.

Beautiful!

9/8/10 storms over Dallas and Forney

Well, it started out like this…

And ended up more like this…

Last night we thought the storms from Tropical Storm Hermine had moved out of town earlier in the day and around 5:30 p.m. we decided to run over to my brother-in-law’s house, about 5 miles from our house, before “heading to town” to grab some dinner.

We heard about tornadoes in Ellis County (45 miles or so south) but didn’t think much about it until we arrived at Brad’s house and discovered the storm was heading our way.

We rushed home just in time to get our digital TV tuner working (satellite sucks in storms) and in time to see the storms roll in from the south.

We took cover around the 2 minute mark in the video above — although Laurie was wanting me to take cover a lot sooner. I turned up the TV, grabbed my laptop and headed to the bathtub with Laurie — watching the radar feeds online as the storm passed over (6:04 – 6:18 or so).

You can see what looks like some rotation in the first two minutes of the storm (between the two homes and on the right hand side of the screen) and then some smaller rotation after the two minute mark.

The Forney Post has photos from near Hwy 80 and FM 460 (about two miles from our house) that appear to show the rotation you can see in my video between the two homes.

I’m not aware of any damage in our area, but Dallas and some areas to the south didn’t fair so well. Luckily I’ve heard no reports of injuries so far.

It all made for an exciting evening — and a late dinner — and helped us realize we may have trouble getting (our soon to be) family of five in the bathtub if needed. Between Laurie, the dog and I… we were quite squished.

So how was your Wednesday evening?
